Pangos Frosh/Soph Saturday Standouts
PrepHoops was in the house all day Saturday for the Pangos All-Midwest Frosh/Soph Camp. Let’s dive into some of the top performers from the first day of action in La Grange!
PG Adam Miller (Morgan Park – 2020)
Miller is one of the elite prospects at this event regardless of class or state. At 6’4” the Morgan Park lead guard has tremendous size for the position which allows him to see over the defense with ease. He has explosive handles. The ball is on a string when it is in his hands. He makes big time moves in traffic with the rock going between his legs or splitting defenders. Very advanced handles for his age. Sick cross over. At times he can get a bit too fancy with his dribbling which leads to turnovers. Miller got to the rim consistently finishing with dunks and acrobatic layups. Crisp passer that puts zip on it and finds teammates. Solid jump shot that he can also hit on step backs. Strong contender for #1 overall in the Illinois 2020 group.
PG Tyler Beard (Whitney Young – 2020)
Beard was maybe the best we have ever seen him on Saturday. The Whitney Young point guard stands at 6’3” with a strong and athletic frame. He was absolutely dynamic with the ball in his hands showing his complete floor game. Beard was excellent shooting it showing off a smooth perimeter stroke pulling up and off the catch. Drilled multiple threes and mixed in a few mid-range jumpers. Beard pushed the ball in the open floor showing a good feel for finding others and also took it to the rack where he finished well at the cup. Rebounded at a nice clip and overall showed a great maturity to his game. One of the best prospects in the state of Illinois’ 2020 class.
SG Keshawn Williams (Bloom – 2020)
Williams just picked up an offer from UIC the other day and showed why that was a smart decision by the D1 program. The Bloom 6’1” combo guard is a smooth scorer. He started off a little slow, but once he got in a rhythm he impacted the game on both ends of the floor. Williams is a plus athlete that makes plays in transition as a finisher and can attack the hoop in the half court with straight line drives. Improving jump shooter as he hit a couple from beyond the arc. Was impressed with what he brought to the table on the defensive end. Blocks shots of opposing guards he is defending and has active hands getting steals.
SG Jaylin Gibson (Evanston – 2021)
This was my first time seeing Gibson who I have heard good things about. The 6’3” shooting guard has excellent size and plus athleticism at the two guard spot. Right now he plays best in an up and down game which camps like Pangos allow to him to show. He handles it well in the open floor and makes slick passes. Finishes above the rim. Defensively he contests shots and competes. Projects as a quality defender. Definitely a 2021 to track in Illinois.
PF Collin Crothers (Benet – 2020)
The Benet 6’8” big man had a nice day. Country strong big man has good mobility, but lacks athleticism which can hurt him at times against length or bigger posts. He showed some tools to work with though. Played physical on the block and got deep post position throughout the day. Displayed overall good skill level including hitting a pair of pull up threes and used a nice looking right handed hook shot on the block. Good first day for the Benet post.
SF Patrick Baldwin Jr. (Hamilton, WI – 2021)
Baldwin might end up being the #1 overall prospect in the entire country when it is all said and done in 2021. At 6’8” he looks like a young Kevin Durant out there. Still pretty thin he has a frame where he will add on bulk as his high school career goes along. Length is a major plus which plays well on the defensive end where you see him get steals, deflections, and blocks. Offensively he can score in a multitude of ways. He has unlimited range on his jump shot out to well beyond the three point arc. Very clean looking stroke with pure mechanics. Handles it well with long strides. Skillful passer and is willing to get others involved. Once his teammates figured out he might be the best player at the camp and got him the ball he was unstoppable!
F Isaiah Jackson (Old Redford, MI – 2020)
Jackson was extremely impressive. He is currently the #2 prospect in the PrepHoopsMichigan 2020 rankings and we can see why he is so highly thought of as a recruit. The forward has length and projectability at 6’8”. The lanky sophomore consistently got on the glass with his quick second jump. Finished with agility around the hoop showing a soft touch. Ran the floor very fluidly. Major shot blocking presence with the ability to change a game with his shot blocking. High-major prospect.
SF Kamari Lands (Indianapolis, IN – 2022)
Lands has a chance to be SPECIAL! He is 2022 meaning he will only be in 8th grade next year. The 6’6” forward is the cousin of DePaul wing Jalen Coleman-Lands. Kamari is a smooth forward with great projectability. He is a big time pull up jump shooter that can drill them from both mid-range and three. Slick slashing with the ball in his hands. Got wherever he wanted on the floor and made it look extremely easy.
PF Darius Hannah (Milwaukee Academy Science, WI – 2020)
Hannah is a long and lanky 6’7” lefty forward. He is thin and will definitely need to add strength going forward. Showed flashes of being able to hit pull up jumpers. Long strides allow him to get to the hoop in just a couple dribbles. Light on his feet with a quick second jump getting on the offensive glass for put backs.
PG Mai’Jhe Wiley (Creighton Prep, NE – 2021)
This 6’0” long armed point guard showed some upside! The Nebraska product is an ultra-smooth scorer that gets where he wants on the floor and makes things happen with the rock in his hands. Wiley handled it well, but really shot the ball at a high rate from beyond the three point arc. Young combo guard to track in the Midwest!
