Continue ReadingThis is always an interesting time of year, as there are a lot of things going on, but there really isn’t much organized basketball being played. While the college coaches are trying to make key decisions, players are back in their home gyms getting better. With each week this fall, we are going to take a look at the latest recruiting news from DC, Maryland, and Virginia.
OWENS PLEDGES TO THE TRIBE
Widely considered one of the best available prospects in the region, LJ Owens was coveted by a handful of division one programs, but ended his recruitment with a pledge to William and Mary. The 6-foot-3 guard, who can play on and off the ball, is primed to make an impact on both ends of the floor at the next level. Considering his strong academic profile, William & Mary is a great fit for Owens off the court.
EWING, HOYAS SCORE MCCLUNG
Not long after announcing that he had reopened his recruitment, Mac McClung played host to Georgetown Head Coach Patrick Ewing and his staff for an in-home visit. The Hoyas got their man as McClung declared his verbal commitment to them. Expect the Gate City standout to be a central figure in the revival efforts of Ewing and co.
ROBERTS TO UW
Former John Carroll big man and PG county native Nate Roberts committed to Washington this week. The 6-foot-10 senior, who was also considering Syracuse and UCONN, will finish up his high school career this season at Brewster Academy in New Hampshire.
THE MOUNT LANDS NNAMENE
St. Albans ’18 center Collin Nnamene will bolster a strong senior class for Mount St. Mary’s Head Coach Jamion Christian. The 6-foot-9 big man is a prideful rim protector, and has a good chance to be very productive in the Mount’s “Mayhem” style of play.
BRYANT TO NSU
One of the more underrated guards in the state, Oscar Smith senior Joe Bryant committed to Norfolk State this week. Considered a top player in the 757, the skilled combo guard has decided to stay close to home where should have a chance to play early and often.
TAYLOR PICKS WYOMING
Former Oscar Smith standout Trevon “TJ” Taylor recently committed to Wyoming. The 6-foot-6 wing, considered one of the more well rounded players to come out of the 757 in recent years, is finishing up his high school career this season in Arizona at Hillcrest Prep.
LONGWOOD “STEALS” MYERS
Hargrave ’18 wing DJ Myers committed to Longwood this week. This pledge came not long after he announced a final four list featuring JMU, Stony Brook, Tennessee Tech, and the Lancers. Myers could end up being a steal for Longwood.
KIER TO MILLERSVILLE
West Springfield ’18 guard Gabriel Kier committed to Millersville this week. Marauders Head Coach Casey Stitzel is doing a great job recruiting the DMV, and continues to make his presence felt in the area.
