Sectional Preview: 47
The coming high school season is almost upon us. With that, we are taking a look at each Sectional in the state. Starting with 64 and ending with 1. Today, we are previewing Sectional 47.
Eastern Greene (13-11) – Lost 1st Rd. Sectional
Eastern Greene takes a hit and loses five of their seniors from last year’s squad and with those five a lot of the scoring leaves too. It’ll be a down year for them but I think that they’ll be fine this year and still win 8-10 games with the potential to do some damage in the postseason with the sectional being a bit down this year.
Linton-Stockton (20-5) – Lost 1st Rd. Sectional
Linton-Stockton had a ton of wins in the regular season last year but ran into the postseason killers, Barr-Reeve. Linton had a ton of talent and were able to grind out wins and slow the game down. This year they lose six seniors to graduation. They still do have the height though needed to win with four guys 6’3 or taller this year. I would say it’ll be a down year for Linton, but I have said that before and been wrong.
Mitchell (9-13) – Lost 2nd Rd. Sectional
Mitchell loses one of the best players in the state this year as Daulton Blackwell is gone from the team last year. This leaves the team a bit behind the 8-ball in terms of scoring. I am not sure that they can step up and take the scoring load that he provided from last year. They will struggle a bit in high scoring games this year.
North Daviess (13-11) – Lost 2nd Rd. Sectional
North Daviess will be undergoing a complete roster turnover this year after losing six players from last year’s squad. One senior is coming in and will be expected to carry the weight with just four other players coming back. North Daviess has been good for a long time but I expect them to drop off this year.
North Knox (6-18) – Lost 2nd Rd. Sectional
North Knox struggled last year plain and simple. Things don’t look much better for this upcoming year as they don’t return some of their key players. They are on the upswing now with some young talent but they won’t do much damage in the tournament this year. They are a few years away.
South Knox (20-8) – Lost Regional Final
South Knox lost their leading and their third leading scorer from last year but that doesn’t mean that they are going to be bad this year. Sure, they’ll take a step back but they are well coached and they have a lot of pieces returning this year. I think they’ll be fine come midyear when everyone finds their role.
Contenders For 2017-18: Eastern Greene, Linton-Stockton, South Knox
Prediction: South Knox
Player to Watch: Ethan Helton (Eastern Greene)
