Recruiting Report: Zach Hidalgo (2018)
With 17.7 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.6 steals a game as a junior Frontier Academy 6-foot-5 wing Zach Hidalgo is expected to have a huge senior year.
“I think our team is going to be fast,” Zach said “This year we will try to push the ball up the floor a lot. We have three returning players including me from last year but it will be good to start fresh with a good group of younger guys.”
This summer Zach played with the Colorado Chaos which was memorable because of the bond Hidalgo shared with his team.
“My top highlights of my 17u season we’re spending time with my Chaos family,” Zach said. “Traveling across the states with them made everything so much more fun.
“It was exciting playing against some of the best competition in the country. I feel like I improved on my defense and spot up shooting.”
Playing at the 17U level allowed Zach to learn what he needed to do better as a senior.
“My focus is to become more athletic and improving my three-point and free throw percentage before this season starts,” Hidalgo.
And competing with Chaos has led to college interest from an assortment of schools.
“I have been talking to South Dakota School of Mines (visiting on Oct. 16), Doane University (visited on Oct. 6-7), Montana Tech (visiting on Oct. 19-21), and Lake Forest (visit TBD).”
Who does Zach look up to as players? Several. All of them are big guards/wings.
“I’ve been looking up to Ray Allen a lot recently,” Zach said. “I’ve been trying to improve my three-point shot and watching him has motivated me to become a better shooter.
“My favorite players (not in order) are vintage Vince Carter, Magic Johnson, Ray Allen, Kobe, and LeBron.”
