The Basketball Interview: Diang Gatlauk
Diang Gatlauk turned a major corner this year and is now committed to NDSCS. The Lincoln wing took on The Basketball Interview today.
At your school, what is your favorite part or parts about game days in terms of the routine leading up to the game?
DG: My favorite part leading into game day at my school would be the excitement that all the students give us before the our games.
What makes your crowd unique?
DG: What makes our crowd unique is the amount of support that they show to us no matter what the score of the game is. One memorable thing that our crowd has done would be when our student section cheered for us in the state tournament to help us beat Huron in overtime.
Who is the toughest player you have faced?
DG: The toughest player that I have played against would probably be Matt Cartwright, he was always our team’s biggest focus but he would always find a way to score the ball.
Who is your biggest rival and what about them makes the rivalry both heated and memorable?
DG: Our biggest rivalry would be Washington because for the past few years we have either been playing against them to make it to state or in the state championship game. Whenever we play against Washington the games have always been heated and the student sections are always involved.
Who is your favorite basketball player in the world and why?
DG: My favorite player is Dwayne Wade because his passion for the game is unmatched and I love the way that he drives to the hoop with no fear.
All basketball players love gear. What brand of gear or type of gear are you partial to?
DG: It depends, for basketball shoes I love playing in Adidas but I love Nike gear.
What is your favorite venue to play basketball in that you’ve played in?
DG: The Pentagon Heritage Court is my favorite place to play basketball in
What court that you haven’t played on would you dream of playing on?
DG: I have always dreamed of playing in a NBA arena.
Explain the relationship varsity players have at your school with youth players?
DG: All of our youth players look at the varsity players as someone they would want to be because every youth who plays basketball has a dream getting a varsity jersey.
Best coaching advice you’ve received is what and who was it from?
DG: The best coaching advice that I have ever been give was by my fifth grade coach, Carl Steer. He taught me that being a basketball player you always need to be disciplined because whenever I’d play in a game I would always get fouled out by reaching and making dumb fouls.

DG: My basketball influence is Jimmy Butler.
