Florida Top 250 Expo: Top 10 Shooters
Down in Florida, we held our second ever Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo. This time around we ran the event at DME Academy, a top notch facility with two NBA sized courts and brand new training areas. Exactly 86 players were in attendance from classes ranging from 2018-2021.
It was a fun day filled with plenty of good basketball and training. Here are 10 top shooters I saw on the day.
2019 Villages F Niven Glover
Awarded best dunker on Monday in our Top 10 Awards piece, 2019 Villages forward Niven Glover can do a ton of other things offensively. He routinely came up the floor and drilled 3’s. The 6’4″ forward can shoot from anywhere on the floor. He’ll be a dangerous counterpart alongside fellow 2019 guard Tre Mann.
2019 Orlando University G Zavien Smith
Present for the afternoon session, Orlando University guard Zavien Smith made plays often. The 6’2″ guard is a gifted outside shooter and he made defenses pay during the scrimmages. In training, he rarely missed. This kid is in for a big fall at his new school.
2020 Timber Creek G Cristian Rojas
One of the better performers from the underclassmen group was 2020 Timber Creek guard Cristian Rojas. The 5’10” prospect made the most of his open looks and also got his teammates involved often. Rojas should have a nice sophomore campaign for the Wolves.
2020 Edgewater G Shakur Poteat
This was one of the more polished younger shooters in the entire showcase. 2020 Edgewater guard Shakur Poteat found open shots regularly and didn’t miss much. The 5’11” guard is going to be trusted plenty on an Edgewater group that graduated star Anfernee Simons this past spring.
2019 Nature Coast G/F Robert Gomez
Transferring from Springstead to Nature Coast this summer, 2019 guard/forward Robert Gomez is used to scoring points in bunches. The 6’3″ Gomez made the most of his second straight expo appearance. He found some good scoring areas and produced often.
2019 Spanish River G Charles West
A big surprise to many was the quiet confidence that 2019 Spanish River guard Charles West ran with all day long. The 6’2″ West stood out as one of the top shooters on this list. He showed off his range throughout the scrimmages and made defenses pay.
2020 Winter Springs G Cole Duncan
In the earlier session, 2020 Winter Springs guard Cole Duncan caught the eye of every single coach there and the fans as well. Duncan, who stands at 6’0″ plays a smart style of basketball, taking good shots. He connected at a high percentage.
2019 Carrollwood Day G Malcolm Whitlow
Coming all the way from Tampa alongside teammates Owen Mixon and Edgar Ziegler, 2019 guard Malcolm Whitlow did his best on the day. The 6’1″ Whitlow found his favorite spot on the floor, coming in the corner. That’s where he hit on long jumpers.
2018 Ida Baker G Stephen Hawkins
Known as an attacker and a pure slasher, 2018 Ida Baker guard Stephen Hawkins impressed as a knockdown shooter. The 6’2″ Hawkins has expanded his game and it shows. Look for him to be the top scorer for Ida Baker this season.
2018 Jesuit G Ryan Radke
Down in Tampa, Jesuit is always a team that plays team basketball. 2018 guard Ryan Radke is part of the process there. The 5’8″ Radke is a really good shooter. He displayed that often on Saturday and that should help his confidence heading into the season.
