Kansas Rankings: Biggest Risers (2019 Guards)
Prep Hoops Kansas takes a look at some guards who have raised their stock since last season.
Christian Braun, 6’4, SG, 2019, Blue Valley Northwest
He’s gone from a virtual unknown and a part time player off the bench for Blue Valley Northwest a year ago to a kid that is now fourth overall in our 2019 rankings and pushing for a spot in the top three. He drew his first offer from Loyola and most recently added an offer from Missouri State. He is a smooth perimeter shooter, a good ballhandler who looks to attack more now than in the past and a long, rangy guard who is likely still growing.
Clarence King, 6’2, PG, 2019, Lawrence
We heard nothing but rave reviews about King throughout much of the summer before he suffered an injury that put the clamps on a strong run. He has good leadership qualities and is a strong guard with terrific size. He has a high basketball IQ and is still coming into his own as an all-around player.
AJ Dickerson, 6’2, SG, 2019, Junction City
He’s ranked No. 20 in our rankings which may not sound like much, but that is a significant bump from last year. He has good size and strength for a guard and put together a strong summer for SSA Elite. He is a bucket getting who can create his own shot off the bounce has the ability to shoot from distance and the mid-range. He consistently rises to the moment and makes big shots.
K’Vonte Baker, 5’9, PG, 2019, Wichita Heights
Baker is an elite football prospect whose highlights can be found all over the internet and he jukes, stutter-steps and blows by defenders for one crazy touchdown run after another. But this ranking is based mostly on his postseason run last year and what he showed at the 5A state championships in Topeka. On the hardwood he has elite, can’t-keep-him-in-front quickness, can get to the bucket any time against any defense, and is a great passer and player maker. He finishes well in traffic, hardly ever shoots from the outside and it hardly matters. He’s probably going to play college football, but he is still a terrific hooper and among the most fun to watch.
