Watch List: 6A Posts
As we wrap up the Way Too Early Rankings and preseason previews for 6A, here is a list of forward and center prospects that should be watched due to their ability to play at the next level and make an impact on their high school rosters. There are a number of talented players in the recently realigned 6A classification. This should be a talented group of post players who will create very competitive games.
6A Watch List
Brock Anderson 6’7 PF/C Bingham 2018
Anderson’s move to Bingham from Riverton drastically altered the landscape of the upcoming season. Anderson will join an already talented team at Bingham in the most loaded conference in the state. Anderson will be responsible for creating a presence on the block offensively and defensively. His ability to protect the rim and finish around the rim will be needed.
Darrien Nebeker 6’5 SF/PF West Jordan 2018
Nebeker is one of the most versatile prospects in 6A. His ability to play on the block and on the perimeter make him a match-up nightmare. Teams cannot put a center on him as he can shoot it and attack from the perimeter. On the block, he has solid footwork and strength that make it tough for a guard to compete with him.
Trevor Allfrey 6’5 PF/C Copper Hills 2019
Allfrey was a big part of Copper Hills success last year, and he will be looked to once again to provide a key presence. Despite playing on one of the top teams in the state as a sophomore, Allfrey is still somehow under the radar. Much like Nebeker, he is a versatile prospect who can hurt the defense in an array of ways.
Isaac Johnson 6’10 PF/C American Fork 2019
Johnson’s length and ability to extent the floor make him a highly sought after prospect. Further, despite being 6’10, he gets up and down the floor well. Johnson mimics exactly what a number of schools at the college level are looking for as he can shoot it from deep and play on the block mixed with uncoachable length.
Matt Van Komen 7’3 C Pleasant Grove 2019
Much like Johnson, Van Komen gets up and down the floor fairly well despite being 7’3. Typically, players at his height earn recognition merely because they possess something that can’t be coached: height. However, Van Komen is quite skilled. It would not be fair to put him in the category of bigs who will get signed merely because of what he could become. Although he has plenty of potential that should make college coaches excited, he has skill right now as well.
Rich Stucki 6’9 PF/C Davis 2018
At 6’9, Stucki possesses next level size. In addition to size, he has a smooth and consistent release from deep. His shooting ability mixed with his skill set on the block make him a handful for opposing teams. Further, this versatility mixed with his size should make him quite compelling to a next level suitor.
Brendon Redford 6’6 PF Davis 2019
Although Redford is a little undersized to be a true post at the college level, his footwork and finishing around the rim impressed me greatly this summer. He seals for possession well and is patient on the block. Further, he is a skilled passer when the defense collapses. As he continues to evolve his game into more of a true SF/PF role, he will see his stock rise as well.
Zach Taylor 6’7 PF/C Fremont 2018
Taylor is not as polished of a stretch four as he will not to be to transition to the PF spot in college. However, he is physical and strong. He gets on the glass well and has a soft touch around the rim. At 6’7 with his athleticism, he can guard an array of positions and win 50/50 rebounds. Taylor will play a huge role in Fremont’s success this season.
Majok Kuath 6’5 SF/PF Kearns 2019
Majok Kuath Kearns High SchoolKuath is loaded with potential. He has good length that enables him to get on the glass. Further, he has a solid handle and a smooth shot. As he matures and learns to play every possession with the same intensity, his stock will sky rocket greatly due to the mixture of skill and uncoachables.
