Oregon Class of 2018 Rankings #1-50 Updates
We have begun the process of releasing our updated rankings for the classes of 2018 & 2019 as well as our first 2020 class rankings. You can check out our updated 2018 rankings (#1-50) here https://prephoops.com/oregon/rankings/prospect-rankings/2018-rankings/ As always the process of creating rankings is an inexact science with a number of factors playing into them including: high school productivity, performance during the AAU season, future potential, college interest, and much more.
We take a look at some of the risers and trends of our most recent rankings.
1) No Change At the Top
The top 4 players in our 2017 rankings remained unchanged after a long spring & summer of evaluation and consideration. Kamaka Hepa is a no brainer #1 and has taken official visits to Texas and Gonzaga in recent weeks. Except him to make his college plans clear prior to the start of his senior season at Jefferson. Our #2 player Kyle Greeley recently committed to Portland State, while #3 player Teagan Quitoriano of Sprague is an Oregon football commit but would surely have D1 offers in basketball if we chose the hardwoods. Kelton Samore of Grant HS, our #4 ranked prospect is approaching ten offers and is working his way through his different choices.
2) A New #5
The 5th player on our updated rankings is Filip Fullerton, a 6’10 post from Southridge HS. Fullerton was no where near the Top 10 in our initial rankings, but impressed with his play this summer, where he emerged as one of the premier players in his class. Fullerton holds an offer from Portland State and is likely to add to that offer as the season progresses.
3) From unranked to Top 50
Two players who we missed all together in our February rankings broke in to the rankings in the Top 50 this go around. Boston Thompson, an athletic 6’8 post from Glide HS broke in at #19 largely based on his future potential. Thompson has an unbelievably high ceiling, remains to be seen if he will work to reach it. At #32 is Central Catholic’s Isaac Amaral-Artharee, a savvy combo guard who impressed this summer playing for Score Athletics and is poised to have a big senior year for the Rams.
4) Positional Breakdown
As could be expected, the wing position dominates our list holding down 24 of the 50 spots. However, the depth of the posts in the class of 2018 is impressive as evidenced by 16 posts making our list and 6 finding their way into the Top 7. Point guard appears to be the thinnest position in the class with only 10 players represented, with Bryce Sloan of Lincoln garnering the highest rating at #8.
5) Other Rankings Risers
Other players who made significant jumps up our lists include Bryce Sloan a point guard from Lincoln HS who moved up to #8, Bostyn Holt from Roosevelt HS who moved to #17, Dyshawn Hobson a point guard from Corvallis HS who moved to #18, and Rowan Anderson from Cleveland HS who moved to #23.
6) By The League
If you use individual talents as your barometer for strength of leagues, than the PIL should be dominant this season. 4 of the Top 10 and 11 of the Top 50 players in the class of 2018 can be found in Portland’s public school league. The breakdown for the rest of the 6A leagues are as follows: Greater Valley 7, Metro 6, Three Rivers 6, Mt. Hood 4, and Southwest Oregon 2. Non 6A players comprised 14 of the 50 players ranked.
