After a stellar showing at Louisiana’s Top 250 Expo earlier this month, 6-foot-4 forward Salle Wilson finds himself firmly on our radar.
The 2020 prospect played this summer on the Under Armour, EYBL and adidas circuits, and honed his skills in the process.
He defined his current skill-set during a recent phone interview with PHLA.
“I feel two of my strong suits are shooting, I can shoot from anywhere on the court, and then taking the ball to the hoop,” said Wilson.
“Most of the time for my high school team, I’m like two guard. And I can play inside and outside. Like when I have a smaller defender on me, I’ll go inside,” said Wilson. “But I prefer to play from the outside.”
This past spring and summer, for his 15U offseason, Wilson tested the waters while playing Under Armour with Louisiana Elite, adidas with YGLA, and EYBL with Elfrid Payton Elite.
“I feel like I played pretty good, but I feel like I could have played better. I always feel like I could play better,” said Wilson.
“But I feel like I’ve grown as a player, and I helped my team out on the court.”
Next season, Wilson mentioned he’ll play full-time with Elfrid Payton Elite. But first, he has an important sophomore season ahead of him with Dunham.
“Last year, I didn’t play as much as I thought I should have. But this year, I feel like I’ll be on the court most of the time. And me and Jordan Wright are going to be the two main players on the court contributing,” said Wilson.
“I have a point to prove to a lot of people, and I feel like I’ll be a lot better this year. I’ve grown as a player, I’m stronger, faster, jumping higher, and my shot has gotten a lot better.”
As for his recruitment, the young gun has a lot of time left for it all to come together. But he has seen some sprouting inquiries from area D1s.
“I’ve got mail from Northwestern State, and they are interested. And also Southern, Richmond and Nicholls State, they came to watch me practice and they talked to me after,” said Wilson.
“I haven’t really thought about recruitment too much. I’m just focusing on my game right now, and when I build up, I’m going to start thinking about it more and more.”
