Recruiting Report: Xavier Cooper (2018)
Six-foot-2 guard Xavier Cooper of George Washington on is a top ten talent in the state who had a strong year with the Colorado Miners.
The Miners played in events in Texas and California that were memorable for Jefferson.
“When I went to Dallas and played against one of the top two guards in the country and held him to seven points and I had 21,” Cooper said. “Another top moment was when I played LaMelo Ball in Cali and I had 30 and we did pull away with the win.
“Last for this being my last summer playing AAU, making it to the elite 8 in Vegas and getting to play a couple games at Bishop Gorman in front of lots of coaches was a good way to end it.”
Xavier improved his shooting from the arc every summer month and he was a leader at the lead guard spot.
“What I feel I improved on was my three-point shooting,” Cooper said. “I shot over 40 percent during July which was a improvement from the June high school stuff. Also, I improved on being a leader because I felt my teammates really looked up to me to lead the team for me being in the point guard position.
“Hoops wise building that chemistry with my new coaches and teammates is important. Athletics wise I’ve been with a trainer focusing on conditioning, strength and being quicker on my feet.
Xavier transferred to George Washington HS last year and is expected to have a strong year with Cooper leading the way.
“I believe when we go out to Vegas we should play really good and that’s where we will show our potential for this season. And we have a lot of threats coming back so this should be a not only fun but a great season.”
A few schools have been in contact with Xavier after his strong summer of play.
“I’m hearing the most from UMass, San Fran State, Metro,” Cooper said. “I’m probably not going to go on any visits until latter the season starts so I can see the game and practice atmosphere at the school.”
Cooper has big goals for the coming winter season.
“My goal is to get a state championship, and hopefully get a division one offer.”
