Prospect Spotlight: Jonas Munson (2019)
Jonas Munson is poised for a breakout season at West Potomac. The 6-foot-11 junior, who played for Virginia Elite 17U this summer, will likely be given plenty of opportunities to impact the game on both ends of the floor this year. Munson has worked hard over the summer to improve his jump shot, and believes that it’s the most improved part of his game.
“I think I’m a stretch big,” Said Munson of his overall game. “I can shoot the 3. I’ve got a good arsenal of post moves.”
We saw Munson comfortably drill a three pointer from the top of the key last Saturday at Wakefield Fall League. This could be something we see more often from the big man.
“I learned how to play with a lot of different types of players,” said Munson of his grassroots experience. “I think that got me a lot more ready for high school.”
Munson is beginning to grow into his body, which has begun to fill out. He visited Wofford, and the College of Charleston this summer. While he is yet to receive his first offer, he is continuing to work hard.
“They were both great. I like both the coaches a lot,” said Munson of his recent visits. “They said they’re interested, and are gonna continue to see me play. I’m currently working on being able to bring the ball up the court, and attack off the dribble.
Munson is an excellent outlet passer. He has great court vision, and the size to see over top of the defense. His passing is probably the most underrated aspect of his game.
“We came up a little short on the state championship last year, so we’re looking forward to continuing that,” said Munson of the team goals. “No personal goals. They are the same as the team goals.”
What can Munson bring to a college program?
“I think I’m a good teammate, and I can do a lot of things on the court.”
