Recruiting Report: Eric Hunter (2018)
Eric Hunter is down to three schools and today he talked about his previous visits with Prep Hoops today.
Ohio State
“What stood out to me about my visit there was the reach that Ohio State has all over the world,” Eric stated. “I think they have a top three alumni base and they are among the most watched Universities in any sport really.
“I was there for an alumni diner and I met a lot of those guys. It was a lot of guys and a lot of names. That really stood out to me. I met the all time leading scorer (Dennis Hopson) and we had a little battle talking trash about beating records.
“He really likes that I play a lot like some of his former players at Butler. His playing style fits me and I think so as well. Their style of play fits me and I think it would be a good place to reach my goals.”
Purdue
“What stood out about the Purdue visit was being with the guys,” Hunter said. “It’s a great group of guys. It’s one thing to go in and feel needed by the coaches but when the players express that to you as well that sticks out.
“I played open gym with them and they are losing four guys so that is a lot of minutes right there. I also like how honest Coach Painter is with me. When you talk around about coach what you hear is that he is an honest guy.
“Purdue has probably been recruiting me the longest so I started going up to games there maybe two seasons ago, my sophomore year. Last year I went to their home opener against Villanova and then I went to the Minnesota game.
“And the Gophers had just started recruiting me a few weeks before that so that was kind of ironic, kind of funny. I’ve also been to a football game there as well.”
Minnesota
“Coach Richard Pitino is definitely a player’s coach,” Hunter said. “That stands out to me and the way the Gophers play stands out to me. There is a lot of pick and rolls and a lot of letting the guards create and letting the guards score. That is pretty unique for me.”
“I took an unofficial visit there in June and I was there pretty much for a full weekend. When you go that far for a visit you want to get in as much stuff as possible
“The only thing I haven’t done up in Minneapolis yet is have time to connect with the guys, the players. That is pretty much the last thing on my list that I want do with them.
“When I was last at Minnesota what stood out was definitely being in The Barn. It’s a special place. Just standing on the court looking around, it was a special place. It’s kind of corny but you can feel the history in there. That’s always cool.
“It’s a very diverse city. You see a little bit of everything and everybody. That’s intriguing as well.”
