Recruiting Report: Tyson Gilbert (2019)
Six-foot-1 guard Tyson Gilbert of Rock Canyon has a visit upcoming and big goals for the coming winter.
Gilbert played with Colorado Chaos and was happy with the summer he had.
“The top highlights of my 17u season was when our team went 5-0 at the West Coast Elite Summer Kickoff the first live period of July,” Gilbert said to Prep Hoops.
“We played against good competition and we played really well as a team! I think my game has improved a lot over the four months because I got stronger and I started to fill out my body more.”
Gilbert produced 12.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, two assists, and two steals a game for Rock Canyon a year ago.
“I’m really focusing on sharpening up all the tools in my game so I can be ready for the season. We have seven juniors (now seniors) who played roles in last years run to the final four, so we’re veteran group for this upcoming season and in my opinion we’ll have a good chance to contend for a state title.
“The first goal is to win a state championship, but also some goals of mine are to make first all league and an all state team, but first and foremost to win a state title.”
Tyson has a visit set for the last weekend of September and he’s hearing from other programs as well.
“I have an official visit set at CSU-Pueblo for Sept. 29-Oct. 1 and also at this time I’m hearing from other RMAC schools as well as a couple other Big Sky Schools,” Tyson said. “I plan on visiting a couple more schools before the season starts.”
Tyson Gilbert has certain college players and NBA talents that he has watched closely as he continues to grow as a player.
“Brandon Jefferson who used to play at Metro State and now plays overseas in Italy is a guy who I look up to and he has helped me out a lot with my game,” Gilbert said.
“Also, my favorite PG’s are Kyrie Irving, Isaiah Thomas, and Jawun Evans and I take different things that they do well and I try to mold my game around those things!”
