Recruiting Report: Curtis Holland III (2018)
It’s no secret that the DMV area is overflowing with high potential basketball talent. Among that group stands 2018 Southern guard Curtis Holland III. Holland saw his name surface on the radar consistently during last season. Once his spring/summer began with The District, his stock started to rise significantly.
He entered the AAU season holding one offer from High Point and ended up collecting four more offers from schools such as IUPUI, Mount Saint Mary’s, Wagner and Radford.
Southern finished with a 16-6 record last season and was led by Holland’s 17 point and six rebound per game averages. He caught folks eyes with his thunderous dunks in transition, but Holland proved that he is much more of an all-around player than a guy who can wow you in the open floor. At 6’3 with a strong build and ball handling skills, Holland can knife through defenses and embrace contact while finishing shots around the rim. If his match up gives him space, Holland can knock down jumpers consistently off the dribble.
Heading into next season at Southern, all eyes will be on Holland and he knows it.
“I know now with my second leading scorer gone, I’m going to have to produce more numbers and take on a bigger role for the team,” Holland told PrepHoops.
Stepping up and being the go-to guy all of the time shouldn’t be an issue for a kid with the skill set of Holland’s. One thing that is always brought up with his game is the fact that he sometimes is too unselfish.
“A lot of coaches have told me I have to let my light shine all of the time,” Holland said. “They feel as though I need to let my light shine all of the time no matter who I’m playing against or playing with.”
Holland has been arguably one of the most improved prospects in the DMV area over the past year. He’s focused on leading Southern throughout his senior campaign and cementing his place amongst the best in the area.
Holland plans on making his final decision before his senior season starts. “Late October, early November,” Holland told PrepHoops. Whoever is lucky enough to land Holland’s services is not only getting a kid who can grow tremendously on the court, but also off. He holds a 3.0 gpa with intentions of majoring in business management.
