Open Gym Notebook: Brownsburg
The month of September brings with it the beginning of open gym season. Over the next month-plus, we will be out on the road checking in on different high school programs from around the state. Here are our notes from our trip to Brownsburg.
Last Season: This past season, Brownsburg really started to progress after having to reboot the program. They pulled in 18 wins and never lost back-to-back games all season. Coach Lynch had his team moving forward with an entire new team that has setup higher expectations this season following their Sectional Championship.
Biggest Changes: The biggest change from last year is the more veteran presence for this upcoming season. They lost Packard Rozzi and Landon Hall as the only seniors on last years team and while that is a big loss, there are going to be at least four seniors on this team. They will also bring in a stellar freshman that could provide instant impact from the jump.
Player To Watch: Cameron Alford (Jr.) – This season, Alford is going to have to step up and take control of this team. He had a big role on last year’s team as the offensive weapon but he had two solid seniors to take the leadership role. This time around, it is his role if he can step into it. He might not be as responsible for offense as he has been but that leadership role is going to be key.
New Face On Roster: Pierce Thomas (Fr.) – There might not be a better freshman in the state than Pierce Thomas. He’s a high-end player who can be an elite athlete and has enough skill right now to impact the Varsity roster. He should add a piece that will demand some attention, hopefully freeing up some defense for guys like Alford, Kris Jackson, Malek Edmonds, and others.
Expectations: The expectations for Brownsburg should be pretty high this year. A pretty veteran group with some talented young players mixed in. Coming off an 18-win season, it wouldn’t surprise to see them get over the 20-win mark and repeat easily as Sectional Champions. Regional will be really difficult but they have a chance to make a deep run.
