DMV Elite 80 Observations: DC/MD Prospects Part 3
2017 MVP: Yavuz Gultekin, 6’7″, W, 2019. John Carroll Patriots HS. Bel Air, MD.
Grassroots Team: Mid Atlantic Select
Yavuz has been in USA for only 2 months & he already holds offers from Old Dominion & Kansas State. He was awarded 2017 MVP of the DMV Elite Elite 80 Showcase held in Bowie on September. He led DMV Elite 80 in scoring 12.7 ppg, hit an amazing 18 of 21 shots. Yavuz is a multi position player & defender who will become a national recruit. He is a fantastic teammate & he is very hungry to become an elite player & in our opinion on the brink.
Prep Hoops Coby Giacubeno recently wrote on September 13, “If you’ve never heard of Gultekin before, it won’t be long until he becomes a household name in high school basketball talk around the DMV area. The 6’7 wing moved to the United State four months ago from Turkey and cemented the fact that he’ll have no issue adjusting to the style of play. The rising junior averaged a showcase-high 12.7 points per game (tied with the next player listed) and scored in a variety of ways. Whether it was hitting outside shots off the catch or dribble, knocking down mid-range pull up jumpers, or posterizing a defender using his elite athleticism, Gultekin got it done all afternoon. He came in with one offer from Old Dominion. Today, Kansas State offered him. Fully expect the offers to begin raining in for this versatile wing.” Additionally Adam Ayalew was well aware of Yavuz when he first came to the USA and wrote the following Recruiting Report for Yavuz below:

Jason Gibson, 6’3″,G, 2019. Sidwell Friends Quakers HS. Washington, DC.
Grassroots Team: 6th Man Warriors..
Jason has expanded his game & he has been become an excellent all around player thru his hard work & dedication.
He is a dead-eye sniper from 3, and he can get inside the paint & convert shots. Jason possesses a very basketball IQ & a superb play maker & floor general. He is a very tough defender, will draw charges & do the dirty work. Jason is deceptively strong, but needs to get stronger for the next level which is 2 years away. Jason has a great work ethic & is developing towards a mid major D1 recruit. We will covering Jason & Sidwell Friends & their players extensively as the Quakers make their bid for anther MAC Championship.

Darius Miles, 6’5″ WG, 2020. Theodore Roosevelt Rough-Riders HS. Washington, DC.
Grassroots Team: DC Blue Devils
Last season Darius was a starter as true freshmen for Theodore Roosevelt HS and recorded a game high 23 points. He is a very hard worker with a very high basketball iq & excels at getting in the paint off the dribble.
With his long wingspan Darius utilizes many crafty moves going to the basket & plays very solid defense. While he can connect on 3 pointers Darius is working hard on his shooting on & off the dribble. We believe he will become an excellent college prospect at the D1 level. Please read our Recruiting Report for Darius below written by Coby Giacubeno:

Demetrius Mims, 6’5″, CG, 2018. Poly Tech Engineers HS. Baltimore, MD.
Grassroots Team: Team Melo
Demetrius won a MD 3A State Title with Poly last season & the Engineers could very well repeat this season. Demetrius is an outstanding jack of all trades player who can impact he game without scoring.
He recently committed to the Long Beach State 49ers where we think Demetrius will have a great career. Demetrius can score from all 3 levels & is an excellent facilitator who gets in the paint. He can guard 4 positions with his long wingspan & is very unselfish, Demetrius plays with a an excellent basketball IQ & is a winner who delivers in crunch time.
Denetrius is #1 in white Poly
Jibril Muhammad, 5’11”, CG/PG, 2019. Archbishop Carroll Lions HS. Washington, DC.
Jamal Muhammad, 5’11”, PG, Archbishop Carroll Lions HS. Washington, DC. Grassroots Team: MD Movement
Jibril & his twin brother opened our eyes at the DMV Elite who play for Archbishop Carroll in the loaded WCAC. All purpose guards and twin brothers Jamal (White team) and Jibril (Orange team) Muhammad showed they belong amongst the group of elite guards in attendance. The 2019 prospects from Archbishop Carroll HS (DC) showed flashes of what’s to come this winter in WCAC play.
Jibril consistently put on ball pressure defense on the opposing point guards coming up with multiple steals which led to easy lay-ups and dunks for himself and his teammates. He also showed that he can knock down the open 3 and find teammates on the wings with his ability to penetrate and kick out for open jumpers. Jamal showed that he was unguardable, easily getting by defender’s and finishing at rim with contact or dishing to cutters. Look out for a breakout year for these two with the arrival of a new Head Coach and talented players at Archbishop Carroll. In the photo on the left, Jibril (on left) & Jamal (right) are shown with longtime Georgetown Hoyas legend Broadcaster Rich Chevotkin.
Jason Murphy, 6’8″, PF, 2019. St. Frances Academy Panthers HS. Baltimore, MD
Grassroots Team: Team Melo
Jason runs the court very well. He is an excellent re-bounder & low post scorer. Jason possesses a very high motor & he is ultra competitor. When Jason is in the low post he always goes towards the basket & can use both hands for his very high FG conversion %. His 1st & second jump are excellent & Jason can protect the rim. He has very quick reactions & excellent timing for rebounds & blocks. Jason utilizes every inch of his 6’8″ frame & he still has a great upside. He is a legitimate D1 recruit, & Jason’s exact level will be determined in the future. Jason joins a powerful St. Frances Academy Panthers team who have the talent to be a top 25 team team in the nation if they can build the chemistry needed. We will be covering St. Frances Academy extensively this season & look forward to watching Jason & the other talented Panthers.
Jason is #35, but video is from Jan. 2016.
Jonathan Preston, 6’4″ WG, 2018. Rock Creek Christian HS. Upper Marlboro, MD.
Grassroots Team: DC Premier
Jonathan is rated # 27 in our Maryland/DC rankings & while he is D1 recruit Jonathan is still under the radar. Last season Rock Creek Christian was ranked in the nations top 25 & loaded with talent. Jason may be overlooked by the general public but the knowledgeable insiders of the DMV & Coaches know that he is a superb multi talented player.
Despite several departure RCCA will be a top 10 Washington/DC preseason candidate. We scouted Jonathan last season and he displayed a D1 skill set. He plays with a very high motor, can defend multiple positions & score from all 3 levels. Jonathan can be considered a glue player, but he is capable of scoring in bunches & facilitate. He will need to score more this season to take pressure off 6’9″ top 60 in the nation teammate Jermaine Harris. Jonathan plays with a great poise, a very high iq, & is tough as nails. This summer Jonathan had a very successful season playing for DC Premier who won 11 games in a row during their Grassroots season. With his size & versatility Jonathan can fit on almost any team and be an effective player. We will be writing a Recruiting Report for Jonathan this week in addition to a Rock Creek Christian Team overview article. This season well be covering Rock Creek Christian who play in the very tough Capital Beltway league with live game reports & individual player articles.
Jon is #4 for RCCA in white in a great game vs rival Riverdale Baptist,
