Maryland/DC Committed Player Breakdown
Nine players from Maryland and DC have already committed to play division one basketball. Many more are expected to follow in the upcoming weeks and months. Below, we take a look at how each player might fit in at the next level.
JALEN SMITH | MARYLAND
The Terps have considered Jalen Smith a priority for quite some time, and he will likely have the chance to team up with former high school mate Darryl Morsell in College Park. The 6’10 forward, who was a forceful paint presence defensively this summer with Team Takeover, is very skilled, and can stretch the floor as well as any big nationally in 2018. Smith will likely be expected to step in as a freshman, and play a key role on both ends for Head Coach Mark Turgeon.
PRENTISS HUBB | NOTRE DAME
Prentiss Hubb is a proven winner, and is poised to contribute in a number of areas from day one at Notre Dame. The versatile lefty defends, creates for others, and scores when he needs to.
MONTEZ MATHIS | RUTGERS
It looks like Steve Pikiell is on the verge of turning things around at Rutgers, and Montez Mathis figures to be a central figure in their new look. The strong 6’5 wing is still just scratching the surface of his potential, and will bring energy along with a strong work ethic to the Big East.
WYNSTON TABBS | BOSTON COLLEGE
Wynston Tabbs brings dynamic offensive playmaking ability at either guard spot. The 6’3 lead guard is very crafty with the ball, and can be difficult to keep out of the lane, especially when his jumper is on. Tabbs should make an impact on both ends of the court in the ACC.
MYLES DREAD | PENN STATE
Pat Chambers has secured a flat out steal in Myles Dread. The 6’4 wing, who has won at every level, is a strong competitor, and a leader. Dread’s jump shot has improved to the point where he is now considered a knock down shooter from long range, and possesses all the intangibles that coaches look for.
JARED BYNUM | ST. JOE’S
Jared Bynum should be a part of the plans from day one for Hawks Head Coach Phil Martelli. The very reliable floor general, who is a candidate for first team all met, knows he must get stronger, and is in the gym daily preparing for the physical grind that the next level requires.
BRYCE GOLDEN | PITTSBURGH
With a motor that is unmatched, Bryce Golden will add a vital physical element to the Panthers front court. The athletic 6’8 forward, who is best in transition, is a terrific rebounder. Golden can stretch the floor, and if he becomes a knock down shooter it could mean plenty of early playing time.
VADO MORSE | MOUNT ST. MARY’S
Vado Morse is a fantastic pick up for Jamion Christian at the Mount. The talented senior, who has a very quick first step, is an underrated shooter who gets in the paint at will where he is also adept at scoring. Morse will bring instant offense, and toughness at the next level.
DONOVANN TOATLEY | CHATTANOOGA
Chattanooga is getting of the most exciting and experienced local point guards in Donovann Toatley. A mismatch nightmare because of his quickness, the shifty and skilled senior is equally devastating in half court as he is in transition. Toatley has been in the gym working hard in anticipation of the physical demands of division one basketball, and we expect him to be ready.
