Prospect Watch: Cameron Williams (2018)
Class of 2018 wing player Cameron Williams of Hazelwood Central never cheats you when it comes to the effort department.
The 6’4″ Williams is an explosive athlete who plays the game with a high motor on both ends of the court. He is an ideal player who will give a team excellent production without necessarily having to run plays for him.
Whether he was playing for his Hazelwood Central team during the winter or his Gateway Basketball Club 17U team during the summer, Williams is going to bring tons of energy as well as a bevy of big plays. Defensively, he is always in the passing lanes and creating turnovers with his athleticism and anticipation. Offensively, he is a slashing wing player who attacks the basket with gusto, especially when it comes to dunking the ball.
“I love to play hard,” Williams said. “When I was younger, my always told me to play hard and good things will happen.”
Some of those good things include recruiting attention from such schools as Tennessee-Martin, SIUE, Missouri State, Portland State, SEMO and Nebraska-Omaha.
As a junior at Hazelwood Central, Williams shot 11.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.8 steals while shooting 53 percent from the field in helping the Hawks to a 17-10 record. With its entire nucleus returning, Williams is hoping to enjoy a banner senior year with the Hawks.
“I don’t have any individual goals, but I do have team goals,” Williams said. “We want to win another district championship and get to the Class 5 state championship.”
