Christian Turner, ‘6.5.5″, WF/WG, Flint Hill Huskies HS. Oakton, VA.
Grassroots Team: DC blue Devils 16U:
In August Christian made the decision to transfer from the Takoma Academy to Flint HS. Christian says,”I transferred for 2 reasons, the 1st was that our Takoma Head Coach accepted an offer to become the AD at nearby Washington Adventist College & this came as a shock. Secondly, I want to play football & Takoma does not have a football team. I am currently playing WR & LB, but basketball is still my priority. Football will help me in basketball especially in my explosion & strength. I am looking forward for my football & basketball this upcoming season. The Flint Hill basketball team could be outstanding. I have worked out with our players & I really like our chemistry & talent. This past season Christian was a key player for the Takoma Academy as the Tigers finished the season at 26-15 and played the toughest schedule in school history which included WCAC and Capitol Beltway conference teams, 2 of the best conferences in the DMV. Christian was tied for 2nd on the Takoma Academy last year in rebounding, 3rd in blocked shots, tied for 3rd in assists, and 5th is scoring. Recently Christian has grown from 6’3″ to 6’5″ and he is improving his game by his hard work which has made him a legitimate college recruit. We have watched Christian this summer at The DeMatha BSN Summer League @ DeMatha HS in Hyattsville, MD and were impressed with his overall game, skill-set and very high basketball IQ. Christian has proved to be an excellent slasher with creativity, outside shooter, facilitator and defender. In addition to being a stat sheet stuffing player, Christian does all the intangibles to help his team win. He can cover multiple positions & we believe Christian will be a D1 recruit.
Christian had an excellent spring & summer playing with the #15 ranked DC Blue Devils 16U which featured 3 top 100 nationally ranked players & numerous D1 prospects. Additionally, Christian had a breakout summer playing in the DeMatha BSN summer league playing against many of the best teams in the DMV. We chatted with Christian this summer about his basketball strengths,”I love to attack the rim in transition and in the half court. Also, I like to use my my mid range game off the dribble and rebounding is another strong point. My defense is very good, and and I like to play on ball D.” However, Christian says he has some work to do,”I am working on my ball handling a lot this summer and my jump shot off the dribble with my Trainer, Coach Dale. In college, I may move to the 2 & I want to be as versatile as possible. I am always trying to improve my overall game and get any edge I can for this coming season. My father helps me with strength training and I have seen a lot of improvement. This spring and summer I am working on my stamina and I am running a lot.” Since mid August Christian has been practicing with the Flint Hill football team preparing for their season opener on September 8 in n away game vs WCAC basketball power Paul VI. We chatted with Christian after a recent football practice who said, “This is a big adjustment for me in going from basketball to football, but by the opener I will be ready. I am still getting in my basketball reps in everyday and I will have 2 to 3 weeks to adjust before basketball season.”
Head Flint Hill basketball Coach Rico Reed has had success in past years, but last year the Huskies finished at 7-20. However, the 2017/2018 Flint Hill squad could easily reverse last seasons record. FH made a huge addition this summer when 6’11” 2019 top 50 nationally ranked Qudus Wahab transferred from nearby Virginia Academy. 2020 6’8″ sophomore Jowar Jioklow is currently ranked #10 in Prep Hoops 2020 Virginia rankings and a D1 prospect. Isiah Moore & Nick Stern have the potential to be one of the best shooting back courts in the DMV. 2018 G Justin Taylor is ranked #88 in our Virginia rankings who has the potential to move up. Sophomore Justice Ellison is another excellent prospect who is ranked #38 by us. Christian will be a significant player for the Huskies & could start.
Flint Hill is a member of the Mid Atlantic Conference (MAC) who could be the 2nd or 3rd best conference in the DMV along with the WCAC (#1) & the Interstate Athletic Conference. Like the MAC the IAC Conference team members are from Virginia, Washington, DC & Maryland. On paper Flint Hill has the potential to be a top 15 Washington, DC DMV team & perhaps higher. This season we will be covering Christian, Flint Hill and the MAC providing game reports, Prospect Spotlights & Recruiting Reports.
In the classroom Christian is an excellent student carrying a 3.3 GPA he plans on majoring in Criminal Justice in College. Christian’s has a very close knit family &his parents & grandparents are his role models. His father attends a,almost very game & helps Christian in his workouts. In regard to attending college he says, “Loyola of Maryland and George Mason University have shown a lot of interest. I am very intrigued in all the local colleges and it would be great to stay near home. However, I am open if the right school offered.”

Justice Ellison, 5’9″, PG, 2020. (pictured below left, #11.)
Extremely strong and quick lead guard. Gets in the lane at will. Plays for others. Has improved as a jump shooter. Plays with a high motor, and defends very well. Vocal.
Qudus Whab, 6’11”, C/PF, 2019. (pictured below #34) Wahab has so much potential that he’s just starting to scratch the surface with. At 6’11″, he’s a terrific rim protector and he can run the floor with guards and wings to finish above the rim or clean up the offensive glass. He still has work to do offensively, but he’s made major improvements in both his post game and in his midrange jump shot. If he continues to improve at the rate he is, he’ll be a very highly recruited player moving forward.
Issaih Moore, PG, 5’7″, 2019. Moore is a creative and skilled lead guard who shoots it exceptionally well off the dribble and from the catch from three. He understands the game, and is a vocal presence on the floor. ranked 91
Justin Taylor, 6’2″, G, 2018.
Taylor is a big time athlete with good size. Gets into the lane and creates contact. Plays downhill and aggressive.
Nick Stern, 6’1″, G, 2018.
our Adam Aylaew says recently, “Flint Hill will probably shock some opponents this year, and Isaiah Moore could be a big reason why. Alongside sharpshooting classmate Nick Stern, Moore hopes to keep opposing defenses off balance. Both players provide outstanding spacing while on the floor, and don’t need much time to get their shot off.”
