Recruiting Report: Trent Williamson (2019)
After a fantastic sophomore season with Earlham, 6-foot-2 guard Trent Williamson established himself as one of the state’s best 2019s.
And it’s not just us who have taken notice, but some initial JuCO, D2 and NAIA college interest has started trickling in for the now-junior.
“I’ve gotten stuff from a couple different schools; Iowa Central, Briar Cliff, Augustana, Concordia-Nebraska, Nebraska-Wesleyan, just stuff about camps and info on their schools and things like that,” said Williamson.
“Stuff’s coming, but nothing super serious or anything like that just yet.”
This offseason, Williamson played when he could during the spring with the Iowa Cornsharks. But also starred with the Earlham baseball team, where he’s been the starting shortstop since his freshman season.
“When I wasn’t playing baseball, I was in the gym or weight-room. Just trying to put on weight and get ready for my junior year,” said Williamson. “And my jump-shot has really been a real priority. I feel like I can get to the rim pretty well, but it’s always nice to have a pull-up game.”
Williamson says college baseball is not out of the question.
“It’s definitely a possibility, but right now my options are pretty open,” he said.
He also mentioned that recruitment is not the first thing on his mind right now. Rightfully so, he still has two high school seasons and a 17U summer to showcase himself.
“Right now with the high school season coming up, I just want to focus on winning games. And especially if we’re winning games and I have the season that I have in mind, then I definitely think that I’ll get some good exposure, for myself and the team,” said Williamson.
As a sophomore, Williamson averaged 19.9 points per game on some stellar shooting, 54 percent from the floor, 38 percent from deep. Solid.
Right now, he’s running cross country to better prepare himself for the rigors of the hoops season. Then, he’ll begin what could be a special junior campaign.
“I believe that our team could be very good this season. Last year I think we surprised some people with how good we were, especially with how much we graduated the year before,” said Williamson.
“We had two really big seniors last year, and now we’re going to be a lot smaller, but we have some guards who didn’t play a lot last season who are really quick and will put up numbers on defense.”
He added: “I’d like to say I’ll have better numbers this year, but I’m fine with whatever happens as long as we keep winning games.”
