Recruiting Report: Shane Anderson (2018)
Shane Anderson came off the Fargo Davies bench a year ago and gave them fantastic minutes. Now the senior is in a key role for his senior year.
Anderson played with Jake Paper, Tyrell Setness, Jaden Klabo, and Parker Stenseth up front but Paper and Stenseth have graduated leaving a talented trio of Klabo, Stenseth, and Anderson. All do different things but this year they all need to step up and grown as players.
Shane knows what he needs to do and he spent time working on his game playing with ECI’s top Prospects team this spring and summer.
“Stopping an opponent from scoring is as important to me as my team scoring,” Shane explained. “Playing against bigger-stronger-faster players has helped me improve on defense and I love trying to impact the game every time down the floor.”
And playing against bigger athletes with agility helped Shane grow as a player himself, and learn what he needs to do better going forward.
“I would like to improve my shooting and improving my speed. I’m also improving my post up game and moves around the basket.”
“I grew as a player this spring and summer by becoming more assertive when I got the ball and looking to score the ball more,” Anderson said. “I also worked on improving my passes out of the post giving my teammates open shots – and playing with ECI makes that really fun.
“The longest lasting memories will be all of the great friendships I made over the summers with my AAU teammates and the coaching and direction I got from the ECI coaches over these last three summers.”
Davies went 25-2 last winter and has high expectations for 2017-18. Talent was lost but Braeton Motschenbacher, Mitch Larson, Klabo, Stenseth, and Anderson returning the drop-off won’t be drastic.
“I think we’ll have a good team this coming season,” Anderson said. “We lost some great guys from last year in Matt Veit, Jake Paper, Andy Baer, and Ty Setness. Looking ahead, we have an excellent coaching staff and great players at Davies this year too. I’m really looking forward to a fun season!”
Anderson finished nearly half his 3-4 shots a game last year, made 60 plus percent of his foul shots, was a top five rebounder on a physical club and the second leading shot blocker. He did many of the same things for ECI this spring leading to three colleges that want him for college hoops.
“I would love to play basketball in college,” Shane explained. “I’m looking at a few colleges right now and I’m hoping to find a good fit for basketball and my education. I’m looking at Macalester College, Concordia College, and Valley City State.”
