2019 G Bobby Sanders Jr. talks about his upcoming junior season, interest and more
This upcoming junior season is a key one for Crestview guard Bobby Sanders Jr.
The 5’10”, 178-pounder has no offers yet but he’s drawn interest from Spring Hill, Alcorn State, UNC Greensboro and Texas Tech.
Sanders Jr. transfers over to Crestview after playing at Choctaw. He was part of a Choctaw group that upended Crestview last February 59-53 in the Class 7A region semifinals. He connected on a 3-pointer at the third quarter buzzer to give his former team a 44-38 lead heading into the final stanza.
At Crestview, he’ll take over 2017 guard Rusty Moorer’s role while playing alongside 2019 talent Marcus Purcell and 2020 guard Tyree Johnson.
“My role for Crestview as starting point guard is to fill the shoes of Rusty [Moorer] with our scoring,” Sanders Jr. said. “Also, to make everyone around me better which I have a great thing at doing, eading the team and pushing us in the right direction while also helping Marcus [Purcell] and Tyree [Johnson] on the score sheet as well.”
For Sanders Jr., he says he learned a lot over the past year training with Nick Stapleton, a trainer for Alabama guard Collin Sexton.
“The part of my game that grown the most Is getting my jump shot consistent which is allowing me to score the ball on all three levels,” he said.
This summer, Sanders Jr. spent a ton of time in the weight room working on getting stronger and developing his overall game. He was with Nike South Beach for part of the summer.
Basketball started at age 4 for him as his dad put a hoop and a ball in his living room. He’s loved the game ever since.
Sanders Jr. says his biggest strengths are his ability to make his teammates better, ability to get to the hoop and play tough defense. He’s aiming to improve his pick and roll game and his jump shot.
Making the move to Crestview should give Sanders Jr. the opportunity to be in charge. As the team’s starting point guard, he’ll make plenty of plays and he’ll help Purcell and Johnson and the rest of the Bulldogs.
