Fulfilling a Dream: D2 Stock Raisers State by State
Earning a scholarship is the dream of high school basketball players. Today at Prep Hoops we continue with our Fulfilling a Dream series finding some of the top D2 level stock raisers across the country. A guy that pushed himself beyond expectations and into several division one options. Out network of writers come together to give you the best of the best in the D2 Stock Raisers category.
Ajang Aguek of Arizona. The 6-foot-7 senior to be from Ironwood High and Powerhouse Hoops can play both forward spots and has a lot of potential to grow into. A long skilled prospect with upside.
Jordan Belka of Minnesota. Belka came into the spring a solid prospect from Rogers High School joining the Comets Elite second group. The 6-foot-6 forward quickly earned six offers from the NSIC with his skilled face-up game and aggressive approach. Recently became the fourth commit to Northern State in South Dakota.
Thomas Bernard of Florida. Bernard is from Cypress Creek High School in Orlando, Florida. He went from unknown to playing for the MTE Diamonds during the summer and receiving d2 offers and interest. Played himself into lots of camp and workout invites as well.
Marc Bowie of Louisiana. Marc is a 6-foot-2 shooting guard that played well with NOLA23 (from Edna Karr HS). He has a beautiful shooting touch off the dribble, and Bowie was recently offered by Arkansas-Fort Smith.
Julius Brown of Ohio. Brown is a 5-foot-10 point guard that impressed with VCC Ohio Warriors Pro Bound. Brown, from Westerville Central, is one of the tougher guards in his area which earned him offers from Anderson and Kentucky State among other options.
Savion Dawkins of South Carolina. A 6-foot-4 York Prep wing, Dawkins will play at York Prep this season after playing at Blythewood High School. Dawkins has the ability to knock down shots on the perimeter. Dawkins showed great improvement this summer playing with the South Carolina Tigers on the AAU circuit.
Marque English of Kansas. English is a 6-foot-55 hybrid forward from Pittsburg High School. He is a kid who came into this summer with no recruitment and now holds an offer with Mid America Nazarene and is being recruited by Pittsburg State (both D2 schools). He has range out to the 3 point line, attacks the boards offensively/defensively and has good touch around the rim. He has a quick first step that he uses to expose bigger players that step out to guard him. Shaping up to be a good college player in the making particularly when his strength catches up to his toughness.
Wyatt Hanson of North Dakota. The Stanley High School native didn’t play any 17 and under basketball until the summer. But once he joined the North Dakota Cougars for three events a couple NSIC offers quickly came and Hanson accepted an offer from Minnesota State-Moorhead shortly after. Hanson is a 6-foot-4 wing that led his team to state last year at 24 a game.
Jalen Hodge of Illinois. Jalen played with Jets-Ramey United and is from O’Fallon High School. He’s a lefty point guard that picked up multiple offers at the D2 level after a strong spring. Great feel for the game, pushes in transition, and can hit open shots. Lewis U, U of Sioux Falls, UMSL, and Parkside are some of the offers Jalen earned.
Jalen Lewis of Missouri. Lewis played with Team Rush this year and is from Liberty High School. He’s a 5-foot-10 point guard that picked up a couple offers at end of July. Quick, can really shoot it.
Cliff McCray of Iowa. The 2019 wing from Sioux City West and Showtime Hoopers is an athletic wing who is starting to put everything together. He has a good understanding of what his strengths are and doesn’t force bad shots. Picked up a Division II offer from Wayne State following a strong summer.
Isaiah Morris of California. A 5-11 point guard from Vista High School. Came into the 17U year without a single offer, left with an offer from Division two Cal State Dominguez and interest from several others. Did a great job for Gamepoint Select.
Micah Paulsen of Washington. A young guard that is very mature. He stands about 5-foot-10 and is one of the more relentless young defenders you will find. The sophomore-to-be is also a go to scorer that had a great year with MAX Hoops.
Gus Reede of South Dakota. Reede is a player that stretches the court both for Aberdeen Roncalli and for the Sanford Pentagon National Team. This spring Gus was fine but in the summer run of events from Milwaukee to Wichita to Las Vegas Reede was explosive at the arc and it led to Northern State’
Brock Schreiner of Oklahoma. The 2018 On Point Hoops point guard entered the summer thought to be just a notch below the Division II level. However, On Point Hoops provided Schreiner with the perfect opportunity to run the PG spot. He did a little bit of everything for OnPoint Hoops. His ability to pass with good vision, score at all three levels consistently and the motor of Schreiner has propelled him to the Division II level.
D’juan Seal of Michigan. A 6-foot-4 wing from Detroit Pershing and REACH Legends, Seal went from being a total unknown, to a top 25 player when the next rankings for PHM come out. Was all NY2LA and was one of the top scoring, rebounding and shot blockers in that circuit. Has picked up multiple high d2 offers and has picked up plenty of D1 interest but no offers from that level. Went from being a maybe d2 recruit, to a high high D2+ recruit. Is also only 16 years old and should be a 2019 age wise.
