Looking For Good Rec?
Are you a high school player with nowhere to play on Saturdays? Or do you have somewhere to play but the competition is not to your liking? If you answered yes to both questions than I have the perfect open rec situation for you. Walnut Hills High School is the location of the Triple Double Prospects Open Gym which kicked off this past Saturday August 19th. Many of the top players in the Cincinnati area were on hand which made for some high-level games and matchups. And with college staffs on hand as well checking out the action, it made for some good action. Prep Hoops was at Walnut Hills for all the action Saturday, here are some of the standout players from Saturdays action.
Dominic “DJ” Brewton-Hughes High School
Dominic did Saturday what he does best and that is score the basketball, in particular off the dribble and in transition. What was impressive about Brewton is that he can finish around the rim in traffic with both hands.
Kameron Gibson-Walnut Hills High School
This 2018 guard showed why he will be a problem for the rest of the city this upcoming season. Rather it was finishing at rim, shooting off the dribble or a catch and shoot situation, Gibson was the most complete scorer in the gym.
Shawn Hawkins-Hughes High School
Hawkins was the best defender in the gym and showed why he will be so important to the Big Red success this season. Rather it was guarding a big or switching out onto a perimeter player, Shawn showed active hands and excellent lateral movement. Also showed the ability to get the rim off the dribble and get out and finish in transition on the offensive end.
Jaxson Hayes-Archbishop Moeller
This rising senior dunked everything in sight, and hard. Named one of the top sleepers in the class of 2018 by Brian Snow on Scout.com, Hayes runs the floor like a guard and can finish with either hand around the rim.
Stevie Stewart-Taft High School
This ultra-tough guard was just that on Saturday, ultra-tough. Known for being to get in the lane, Stewart did just that while also showing the ability to finish in traffic. I noticed that he looked a lot more comfortable shooting the ball from the perimeter than he did last season.
Mark Wise-Deer Park High School
The only underclassmen on this list, Wise scored from all three levels while playing with and without the ball. Used his size well to finish in the paint and rebound.
Other Notable Players: Jeremiah Davenport (Archbishop Moeller), Noah Pedelty (Mason), Greg Tribble (Winton Woods)
