July’s Best of the Rest Part 2
In continuing our series on the best of the rest for July’s live period, here is part 2. Below are five more players who played at a high level this past live period and earned the distinction of the “Best of the Rest”.
Best of the Rest Part 2
DJ McNeal 5’11 PG 2018 Agua Fria (AZ Venom)
McNeal put up video game type numbers at times this past live period. His ability to get into the paint makes him attractive at the next level. He has a good first step and a strong body that enables him to hold the defender. Further, he is a knock down shooter from the perimeter. McNeal was recently at Arizona Christian University’s Elite ID Camp where he performed very well as well.
Caden Hoffman 5’11 PG 2018 Rancho Solano (PowerHouse Hoops Black 17U)
Hoffman has an extremely high basketball IQ. He manages the tempo of the game well and puts his teammates in good spots. Further, he shoots the basketball at a high level and uses his bigs well coming off of on ball screens. Adding Nikc Jackson to the mix at Rancho Solano is only going to help Hoffman demonstrate what he is capable of doing.
Shaun Walhstrom 6’8 PF/C 2019 Estrella Foothills (Classics/Team Bayless)
Walhstrom, he plays for the Classics but participated in one tournament with Team Bayless, had some very strong moments. Although he still needs to work on his ability to hold his spot on the block, he has the strength to do it. He performed at a high level at 16U and was solid at 17U. At times, he looks a little unconventional, but he is a good athlete who can play on the block and on the perimeter. His versatility and skill set make him attractive. He will continue to improve and be a good prospect to watch.
Grant Greabell 6’3 SG 2018 Estrella Foothills (Team Zona Black)
Greabell continued to shoot the heck out of the basketball this past live period for Team Zona. His ability to score without having the basketball in his hands the entire possession makes him stick out. He does a good job of letting the offense flow and still finding ways to get open off of screens and moving without the basketball. In addition to a strong July, Greabell must be excited about the addition of Walhstrom to Estrella Foothills. These two should be one of the best 1-2 punches in 4A.
Jackson Ruai 6’3 PG 2019 Ampitheater (PowerHouse Hoops Black 16U)
Ruai earned multiple scholarship offers due to his strong play this July. The biggest compliment I hear about this young man from college coaches is that his game translates well to the next level. He needs to continue to put on size. However, he has length and a good motor. He has a long first step which enables him to get into the paint at a good rate. After this July, Ruai demonstrated that he is a solid NCAA Division I Mid Major prospect.
