Recruiting Report: KJ Simon (2018)
2018 West Orange guard KJ Simon has seen his stock rise just in the past few weeks.
When I chatted with him in mid-July, he had three offers from UNC Asheville, Stetson and USF. He now has 11, picking up eight over the final two weeks of the month.
The latest offers have come from Gardner Webb, Winthrop, VCU, Murray State, Towson, Troy, Kennesaw State and Georgia Southern.
The 6’3″, 185-pounder has also drawn interest from Furman and Boston College.
This past season, Simon transferred to West Orange from Oak Ridge. He says he was the fourth or fifth option at his old school, but at West Orange he was able to be the first option where his teammates followed his lead.
“Everything in my game grew. I could always pass but running the point improved, my ball handling and IQ as well,” Simon told Prep Hoops Florida. “My role at West Orange this season will be the same as a captain and point guard. I’m better prepared though.”
He spent the summer with Nike South Beach. Simon says he is focused on being a complete guard. With six guys that can really score on NSB, he doesn’t shoot as much.
“If you ever see me at West Orange where my team needs me to score it, you know I can score the ball,” he said.
Starting his basketball career at age 4, Simon calls himself a brilliant passer.
“I see plays before they happen. I play above the rim and I play lock down defense,” he said.
Simon is on the rise. With his slashing ability as a passer and pure scorer more Division I colleges will take notice. He is certainly a mid-Division I talent who has the chance to be a really solid player at the next level.
