KC: 2018 Small College Sleepers
The PrepHoopsIllinois July road show ended in Kansas City this last week at the Sunflower Showcase and Jayhawk Invitational where we evaluated many Illinois prospects. Here are a few under the radar sleepers that we evaluated in KC who small colleges should continue to track this fall and winter.
SF Calvin Fisher (Illinois Irish 17U)
Fisher is a player that continues to elevate his stock. He had an outstanding July overall for the Irish. Plus shooter that can get really hot from deep with solid size.
SG Aaron Shoot (Quad City Elite 17U)
Shoot is a combo guard from Quincy High School that can really let it fly from deep. He is best as a spot up shooter, but can also handle it on the ball some and is a solid athlete.
SF Ryan Kutsor (Kessel Heat 17U)
Big fan of this Lake Zurich wing! He is a gritty small forward that plays within his role and knows who he is as a player. Plus spot up shooter that stretches the floor with his perimeter shooting. Also mixes in drives and rebounds.
PF Daniel Buford (Hoopers Basketball Club 17U)
Buford is only 6’3”, but this kid just mauls people on the boards. He rebounded well against bigger opponents with positioning, boxing out, and using his quickness.
SF William “Grif” Ryan (Hoops4Health 17U)
Ryan is a floor spacing forward that can shoot it from the perimeter. Mixes in drives on occasion and plays with a lot of toughness.
SG Kahlil Blakney (Hoops4Health 17U)
Blakney played a bigger role than we had seen in the past for Hoops4Heatlh. He is a rangy left handed combo guard that can shoot it a little and get up above the rim for finishes.
SF Ryan Saunders (Hoops4Health 17U)
The Joliet Central shooting guard is a versatile wing that does the dirty work for Hoops4Health. He skies high for rebounds, plays tough defense, and gets out in transition.
PF Josh Sorenson (Mercury Elite 17U)
Sorenson capped a stellar July with another quality outing at the Sunflower Showcase. Skilled four man that can score with his basket to the basket and shoot it from mid-range facing up. Fights on the glass.
PG Jack Marinko (Gateway Illinois 17U)
Marinko is a plus shooter from three! This Edwardsville point guard can really let it fly from deep and plays with a lot of passion for the game. Solid handles.
SF Rayquon Fuller (Team Illinois 17U)
Fuller is a broad shouldered wing from Normal Community. He excels the most in transition as a wing finisher and plays powerful in the paint.
SF Tyler Washington (Team Illinois 17U)
Washington is from Bloomington. The 6’3” wing can shoot it from deep and also slashes it pretty well getting to the line at a decent rate.
SF David Binion (Kessel Heat 17U)
Binion made an impression on us with his toughness. He is and undersized forward at only 6’3”, but was effective finishing in the high/low and was dominant getting on the offensive glass.
SG Tomas Vikonis (Kessel Heat 17U)
Vikonis is a quality 6’2” athlete that attacks off the bounce with quickness and can hit an occasional three.
PG Britt Booker (Hoopville 17U)
This O’Fallon point guard shot it well from the field. Drilled multiple pull up threes in one of the games we witnessed.
PF Caleb Strohmeier (Jets-Ramey United 17U)
Strohmeier is a tough four man out of Edwardsville that fights on the interior and is starting to realize who he is as a player. Flashes skill on the block and fights on the boards.
