Recruiting Riser: Trey McGowens
One of the highest rising prospects named other than Nate Hinton in the region is Trey McGowens of Upward Stars/Hargrave Military Academy. Starting off July, McGowens had over 25 low-major to mid-major offers from College of Charleston, Georgia Southern, East Carolina, Winthrop, Tennessee Tech, Norfolk State, Towson, Charlotte, NC A&T, Wofford, Appalachian State, South Carolina State, Southern Utah, Furman, Western Carolina, Elon, Mercer, Southern Miss, Florida Gulf Coast, Rice, Arkansas State, William & Mary and Boston University.
Trey McGowensFast-forward to yesterday and McGowens picked up offers from Wyoming, VCU and Ole Miss. The athletic shooting guard who can play three positions on the floor decided to transfer to Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia from Wren HS outside of Greenville, South Carolina over the summer. He will be playing for newly appointed head coach Lee Martin, who was given the head job after long-time head coach AW Hamilton took an assistant coaching job at NC State University.
McGowens used a strong early-July recruiting period to gain the high-major offers coming from Wyoming, VCU and Ole Miss.
Ole Miss has a South Carolina connection with freshman point guard Devontae Shuler who finished his career at Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia after transferring from Irmo High School outside of Columbia, South Carolina.
McGowens is a human highlight reel with his athleticism and dunking ability. He has the ability to attack the paint and can get buckets from all levels of the floor. He has a strong build for the two-guard spot and can also play the point guard position.
Playing at Hargrave Military Academy will only help his game and will pit him against some of the best players in the nation for practice and games. Hargrave plays a national schedule and has one of the best young coaches in the game heading the program.
