Recruiting Report: Hunter Sand (2018)
Six-foot-2 Dakota Prairie guard Hunter Sand has made an impact on ECI’s 17u team that has had a better year than expected and has been the best in their state.
Sand’s team went 10-13 this winter so it was a rocky showing at times but Hunter learned as the year went on.
“Our basketball season had its ups and downs,” Sand told PHD. “I focused on becoming a better defensive player and leader on the court.
“We played against some good competition, which allowed us to continually get better. Making it to Regionals was a goal we set at the beginning of year. I’ve learned to play every minute like it could be your last.”
Hunter is taking what he learned through the winter and applying it to his every day work both on his own and with ECI at the 17u level.
“I’m working hard to be a more consistent shooter and on my ball handling skills,” Hunter told PHD. “Through the AAU events, I have learned that every possession counts and you need to take care of the ball. Playing together is really important.”
Sand is also a standout football player and he’s hoping a good run with ECI and a strong senior season will get him to the college level of play.
“I’m hoping to play basketball in college, however I am keeping my options open,” Sand said. “I have also been contacted for football and baseball. I have been in contact with some area colleges, trying to find the best fit.”
Sand’s big goal in the immediate future is help Dakota Prairie make a late run.
“My goal is to improve every day no matter what the sports is and help my team make a run deep into the postseason.”
