NY2LA Summer Jam: Wednesday
MEQUON, WI | The second live period of July got underway on Wednesday night and we were up in Milwaukee to check in on the top teams and players in the country as NY2LA held one of the best events in the country this week. We got to check in on a few in-state teams as well as some top teams from around the Midwest. Here is what we saw.
Blaze Select Knocks Off Ramey Jets United 2018
With Ohio State commit Musa Jallow still playing AAU, Team Blaze Select 2018 was able to make one of the strongest statements of the night at NY2LA as they knocked off Ramey Jets United 2018. Ramey was one of the better teams in the country this year with guys like Louisville commit Courtney Ramey and Ohio State commit Torrence Watson.
Musa Jallow played really well against his future teammate in Watson. He was showing off his athleticism and shot making ability. However, he was joined on this night by other strong performances by Jack Townsend and Tre Baumgardner III. Townsend was making plays in transition and pulling up from distance. Baumgardner looks much improved since the spring. More active and able to be a two-way player now.
Christian Harvey Continues Strong Play
Over the last couple of weeks, Richmond guard Christian Harvey has been playing at a pretty high level. Typically a guy who is going to drive to the rack and try and draw contact along the way, Harvey has been scoring more from behind the arc. He’s not a guy who is going to blow you away with his shooting, he does that with his ability to get to the rim making the fact that his jumper is falling right now a big, big positive.
He already picked up an offer from Indiana Tech following our PHI Senior Showcase two weekends ago. Now, he’s starting to draw in many more DII and NAIA programs from around the Midwest as he continues the summer playing with George Hill Rising Stars.
Checking In On Larkin Duo
Stemming from a trip to Saint Louis this past winter, we were looking forward to watching the duo from Larkin (IL) High School play this summer. Anthony Lynch and Jalen Snow were both guys that stood out this last year during school ball. Tonight, they showed some progress as they played with Kessel Heat Black NY2LA 2018.
Big man Jalen Shaw looks more polished than he did a while back. He’s got legit size at 6’10 with a strong lower half but he looks much more fluid and able to affect the game on the offensive side of the ball. Still a work in progress but worth taking a long look at for Low and Mid-Major programs. Can’t teach size and he has it and a solid back-to-the-basket game.
The better looking of the two was guard Anthony Lynch. The 6’3 combo guard has really improved his handles enough that you could see him staying on the ball a bit more. He’s a creative guard that showed the ability to make plays at all three levels with solid vision, passing, and a capable jumper. He’s that fringy DI prospect that could see his stock rise this week.
