Next Level Invitational: Sunday Invitational
PrepHoopsIllinois closed out the first live period on Sunday at the NY2LA Sports Next Level Invitational. Here are the Sunday Standouts!
C Jalen Shaw (Kessel Heat 17U)
Shaw was one of the more heavily tracked prospects at the event. The state’s #2 center brought his A game in the 8 AM contest against Team Blaze. He was assertive right from the jump with a score on his first two touches including a mid-range jumper. Shaw makes quick and aggressive moves in the paint for scores. Also got on the offensive glass for put backs. Shaw went for 14 points and 6 rebounds. The Larkin big man is a good mid-major prospect with developmental upside.
F Musa Jallow (Team Blaze 17U)
Another dominant performance out of the Ohio State commit from Indiana. He will head to the Buckeyes in 2017 and should be able to make an immediate impact with his combination of athleticism and strength. In this game he told all those people that say he couldn’t shoot to shove it! Jallow drilled four pull up threes with a clean looking stroke. Physical in the paint and finishes strong. Plus rebounder. Extremely impressive passer for a forward.
PG Jalen Hodge (Jets-Ramey United 17U)
Hodge is a lead guard out of O’Fallon that plays with a lot of flair. The lefty played his best on Sunday. He shot it well from the perimeter with several threes off the catch. Hodge is a heady point guard that makes sound decisions with the ball in his hands. Crisp passer that has a feel for finding guys in both transition and the half court. D2 prospect.
PG Kevin Caldwell (Jets-Ramey United 17U)
Caldwell was one of the stars of the week. He scored at a high rate throughout especially shooting the ball from the perimeter. Consistently knocked down threes again on Sunday. Shows a burst off the bounce getting to the rack and getting out in transition. Was a force on the defensive end with his on ball pressure defense. Caldwell moved into low-major consideration this week.
PF Caleb Strohmeier (Jets-Ramey United 17U)
Another quality day out of this Edwardsville forward. Strohmeier was physical around the hoop and fought hard on the glass. Converted an alley-oop and used a sweet hook shot on a couple occasions. Good D2 prospect.
SG Justin Eagins (Kessel Heat 16U)
Eagins showed out on Sunday morning. The Downers Grove South 2019 wing was in a zone. The angular lefty shot it well from deep. Hit multiple pull up threes pulling off of the bounce. Also likes to utilize his step back to create space for his shot. Very quick release on his jumper. Slippery ball handler. He had 13 points. Not ideal size for the wing position, but he produces.
PF Charlie Hoehne (Made Men 16U)
Very impressive outing from this OPRF four man. The 6’7” power forward is a skilled face up four that can step out where he handles it, passes, and can knock down a mid-range jumper. Even stretches it out to beyond the arc on occasion. Runs the floor extremely well for a post. We came away very impressed with what he did on the defensive end using his length to get half a dozen steals. One to track for D2 and LM schools.
