Preseason All-Conference: Heart of Iowa
Player of the Year: 2018 Marco Balderas, South Hamilton
Few players in the state make a bigger impact on both ends of the floor than South Hamilton’s diminutive point guard. With Collin Hill graduated, his scoring numbers should increase, but that won’t prevent him from being among the best assist men in the state too.
First Team
2018 Marco Balderas, South Hamilton (12.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, 5.9 assists, 2.5 steals, 51.2 FG%)
The 5-9 point guard is one of the toughest players in the state, and a menace on both ends of the floor. He’ll prevent the Hawks from falling too much from last year’s highly successful team.
2019 Trey Hinote, Greene County (15.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, 68 3PM, 43.6 3P%)
The leading returning scorer in the conference, Hinote knocked down more 3s than anyone in the league last season as well. With Trey Tucker’s 24.5 points a game gone, his numbers could be insane this winter.
2018 Trent Stahl, Nevada (14.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.6 steals)
A versatile scoring threat, Stahl was one of the league’s best stat sheet stuffers last season, ranking in the top five in scoring, assists and steals, and the top 20 in rebounding.
2018 Jackson Thomas, PCM, Monroe (14.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 53 3PM)
The leading scorer for an always strong PCM team, Thomas is capable of scoring in bunches from anywhere on the court. The Mustangs will be one of the few teams contending for a league title, and this versatile wing is the biggest reason why.
2019 Conner Hill, South Hamilton (11.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 61 3PM, 41.8 3P%)
One of the best perimeter defenders in the state, Hill’s a scrappy guard who takes pride in his ability on that end of the floor. He can also light it up and with older brother Collin gone, look for the scoring numbers to increase substantially.
