Preseason All-Conference: Hawkeye Ten
Player of the Year: 2018 Nate Mohr, Glenwood
In a league with lots of returning talent, Mohr stands a step above the rest. The conference’s leading returning scorer at just under 20 points a game, he’s a versatile scoring threat who is also the leading returnee in assists and steals, impacting the game on both ends of the floor.
First Team
2018 Nate Mohr, Glenwood (19.7 points, 3.0 rebounds, 4.7 assists, 2.6 steals, 76 3PM)
The leading returning scorer in the league, Mohr put together a strong off-season playing with a good Omaha Elite program. After leading the conference in 3-pointers last year, he’ll be looking to lead the Rams back to the state tournament like he helped do as a freshman.
2019 Kylan Smallwood, Creston (18.4 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 2.3 steals, 50.5 FG%)
An athletic, attacking wing, Smallwood has a strong chance to lead the league in scoring this season. He’s a great finisher around the rim and a dynamic playmaker with the ball in his hands. After a great off-season with Kingdom Hoops, look for Smallwood to have a fantastic junior season for the Panthers.
2018 Andrew Blum, Glenwood (16.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.3 blocks)
The 1B to Mohr’s 1A and Stanislav’s 1C, Blum is the league’s leading returning rebounder and second leading scorer. A strong, physical presence, he’s capable of stretching out to the arc, but is at his best when he’s playing in the paint. He’s capable of averaging a double-double.
2018 Shane Chamberlain, Harlan (15.2 points, 6.9 rebounds)
A talented two-way player, Chamberlain was the Cyclones’ second leading scorer and their leading rebounder last season. With his ability to score inside and out, he’s a matchup problem for all teams in the Hawkeye Ten.
2018 Scott Leonard, Atlantic (14.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, 71.2 FG%)
The beneficiary of playing alongside an extremely gifted playmaker in Garrett Franken, Leonard shot an astounding 71% from the floor last year. A strong, physical 6-7 post presence, he’s one of the best finishers around the rim anywhere in the state and will be a dominant force for the Trojans this winter.
