CB Lincoln Team Camp: Standouts Part II
2018 Cliff McCray, 6’2 PG (Sioux City West)
Even after a recent surge — up to No.20 — in the latest 2019 rankings, this explosive and dynamic lead guard sill might be too low. When engaged, there’s very few players in the state who can dominant a game like McCray. He’s developing into a special talent for the Wolverines.
2020 Zach Carr, 5’10 G (Glenwood)
We were shocked to come into the gym and see the former Valley youngster running with the Rams from western Iowa. Evidently, Carr transferred into Glenwood last winter, which means he’ll be eligible to play right away with the this winter as a sophomore. He’ll bring plus athleticism, and some savvy passing, plus a nice J.
2018 Shane Chamberlain, 6’4 SF (Harlan)
He’ll be one of the more dominant and versatile threats in 3A next season, and that diverse skill-set was on full display today during his Cyclones’ beat down of Omaha program, Benson. He hit several 3s, but his strength will probably be bodying younger opponents in the paint. Look for him to post double-doubles with regularity next winter.
2019 Hosea Treadwell, 6’1 G (Hoover)
One of the most improved players we saw at the camp, Treadwell has always been a special talent; he played with the Hoover varsity as a freshman. But he looks like he’s really blossoming into an impact player now. His jumper was pure, and he canned three first half 3s in the game we saw, and his added height it helpful too.
2021 Manny Austin, 5’11 G (Hoover)
I had to track this kid down during the game when he went to the water fountain to get a drink. At that point he had already dropped 19 points on one of Nebraska’s best teams, Creighton Prep, and he looked like a wily vet while doing so. When he told me he was an incoming frosh, I was baffled. He should be one of the top frosh in Iowa next season.
2018 Sam Ingoli, 6’4 PG (Dowling)
Big, strong, smart, well-calculated, deliberate, can all be used to define this well-documented Maroons point guard. He’s bigger than everybody that guards him, so he makes a killing in the paint and from putbacks, but he can hit an open jumper, and can defend all five positions. Look for some additional offers to come in this summer.
2018 John Waggoner, 6’5 C (Dowing)
We all know by now that this rising senior is a football guy, he holds offers from Michigan, Ohio State, Iowa, Notre Dame etc. for his prowess on the gridiron. But while everyone waits on his college selection, he’s been grinding it out with the basketball team this June. He’s been at both team camps we’ve covered with Dowling, and with a stronger frame than anyone, likely, in the state, he’ll be able to make an enormous impact in the paint for the Maroons this winter.
2021 Ryan Riggs, 6’7 F (Dowling)
He’s tall and lanky, and we figured he was a rising junior, either way we would have been impressed with his ability to snare boards and maneuver his way into good scoring positions. He was especially good in the second half of a win over a good Sioux City West team, and it turns out that he’s a rising freshman. If that wasn’t impressive enough, he told me he’s [playing with MOKAN Elite 14U this summer.
