Central Michigan University Team Camp: Top Performers
This past weekend, Central Michigan University hosted their annual team camp. As I’ve mentioned in my article about CMU’s top targets from the weekend, most colleges/universities host team camps during the month of June. CMU’s camp is one of the top camps in the state, playing host to some of the most talented high school teams from all classes. Here are some of the top individual performers from the weekend:
Danny Kolp (2018, Petoskey) – Kolp played very well all weekend until he got hurt. He went down with a sprained ankle in one of the final games of the weekend and did not return; let’s hope it’s not too serious. Before the injury, he was looking good playing against some of the top big men in the state in Tariq Woody and Nolan Foster. He shot the three at a high level, finished around the rim, rebounded and defended all very well. He was moving well and showed an ability to drive from the three point line and finish.
Tariq Woody (2018, Novi) – Woody was a force all weekend. Often overshadowed by teammates Traveon Maddox and Jiovanni Miles, Woody holds his own and competes with the best of them. He’s strong inside, which causes him to be a tough matchup in the low post. He used his size and strength to finish over/thru opponents all weekend. He did a solid job rebounding as well. Also, he played very well in his matchup with Danny Kolp.

There wasn’t a ton of competition for Maddox, as he was either bigger or more athletic than nearly everybody else. However, you still have to go out and compete, which Maddox did well. He showed off his full arsenal on the offensive end, as he hit threes and midrange pull-ups, slashed to the rim finishing tough layups or simply dunking over defenders, as well as showing a few nice dribble moves to shake his defender.
Jake Lee (2018, Petoskey) – Lee did all the little things well. He competed hard and played with heart. He made shots/plays when they were there but made sure not to force things. He was matched up with some of Michigan’s better bigs throughout the day, giving up height but refusing to be bullied/dominated. He rebounded well against bigger, taller competition. One thing that Lee did at a very high rate was beat the zone by making plays from the middle.
Robbie Schroeder (2018, Coloma) – Schroeder had a solid weekend for Coloma. He played hard and aggressive, helping him rebound well. He made several good post moves and finishes, showing some skill in the low post. When he caught the ball on the perimeter, he attacked the rim well. He was the one bright spot on his team in a blowout loss to Brighton, as he played well even with star teammate Zach Goodline struggling.
Dalton Perth (Brighton) – A solid all around point guard, Perth played well against Zach Goodline. He played hard and physical. He did it all – scored, facilitated, defended and even rebounded a little. One valuable skill he brought to the floor was his good communication and leadership skills. He was a big reason why Brighton won in a blowout victory over Coloma.
