IAABO Team Camp Recap (Team Reports)
Prep Hoops Missouri spent a couple of days at the IAABO Team Camp at Francis Howell Central High in St. Charles, MO. Here is a look at some of the top teams at the team camp:
Parkway South: The Patriots looked good in a couple of victories that I witnessed, including a come-from-behind win over Fort Zumwalt West. 6’5″ 2018 forward A.J. Sommer and his brother 6’3″ 2019 guard Adam Sommer did a nice job scoring the ball. A.J. is an all-purpose forward who rebounds, handles the ball and plays solid defense while Adam shuffles between point guard and shooting guard. 6’1″ 2018 guard Jordan Doyle is a solid guard who can really knock down 3-pointers. 6’5″ 2018 forward Jack Mullen played with high energy on both ends of the court. His motor never stopped running. The Patriots are coming off a conference title.
Francis Howell: The Vikings won a conference title and advanced to a district championship game in Class 5 last season. They will build around dynamic 5’6″ 2019 point guard Daylen Dalton and strong 6’4″ 2020 forward Matt Schark. Dalton is an excellent point guard who plays with great pace and quickness. He can get buckets and find open teammates. Schark is a tough cover because he can score in the paint with good inside moves, plus he can step out and knock down 3-pointers. They also have a solid pair of brothers in versatile 6’4″ 2018 wing Mark Simmons and thick 6’2″ 2019 guard Matt Simmons.
Fort Zumwalt South: The Bulldogs had a productive week as they went undefeated in the camp. They are young and very capable of offensive end. 6’0″ 2018 guard Darious Thomas is a physical guard who attacks the basket with reckless abandon. He now is in a leadership role as one of the few seniors on the team. The leader of the 2019 guard is 6’4″ guard E.J. Bellinger, who can knock down 3-pointers and mid-range jumpers, plus throw down dunks in transition. 6’4″ 2020 forward J.J. Schwepker is a long distance shooter who can really stretch the floor. South has several other young players who can shoot the ball.
Jennings: The Warriors were Class 4 state quarterfinalists a year ago and a solid group returns, led by 5’10” 2018 point guard Kyle Younge, who can get buckets and facilitate. He is a fearless competitor who enjoys taking big shots. He has three-level scoring ability. 5’10” 2018 guard Terran Jackson did a nice job attacking the basket. New transfer 6’3″ 2019 wing Elijah Hicks will add some versatility to the mix as he can handle the ball, rebound and score inside and out. 6’5″ 2018 forward Jordan Brown is a long, athletic combo forward who can rebound and play the top of the Warriors’ full-court press.
Troy: The Trojans have a solid point guard in 6’0″ 2018 Drew Deters, who is very strong with the ball. He can beat pressure and get to the bucket through contact. 6’5″ 2018 forward Andrew Nett is an excellent 3-point shooter who also showed the willingness to go inside and get some tough buckets in the paint. 6’5″ 2019 forward Jim King had some solid moments in the paint as well.
Cardinal Ritter: The Lions have been playing a lot of young guys during the team camp action in June. 5’10” 2019 point guard Malek Davis has been showing good veteran leadership with his scoring and excellent passing ability. 5’10” 2019 guard Ryan Torrey is an excellent 3-point shooter off the catch, plus he can also create a little space to shoot off the dribble. 6’5″ 2018 forward Breon Mosby is a tough competitor in the low post while 6’3″ 2019 forward Gary Clark is a young player who works the baseline well with his quickness and nice shooting touch around the basket.
St. Charles West: The Warriors were 12-15 a year ago, but they have a chance to turn around their season with the return of a talented perimeter trio. 6’2″ 2019 guard Trent Champagne showed the ability to facilitate and run the show, plus he can really score with his pull up jumpers and 3-pointers. 6’2″ 2018 guard Nick Bazzell is a resourceful offensive player who can knock down 3-pointers and get to the basket and score through contact. 5’10” 2019 guard Josh Anderson is a thick shooter who can really knock them down from long distance.
