Central Michigan University’s Top Targets from June Team Camp
June sees a break from AAU ball as players reunite with their high school squad for the month. Most colleges and universities around the state will put on a team camp, where high schoolers will have the opportunity to compete in front of the university’s coaching staff. These camps are great for exposure, as kids have the opportunity to talk to coaching staff following impressive performances, and even earn offers. This past weekend, I covered Central Michigan University’s team camp and had the opportunity to watch as the coaching staff watched solid recruits in their own backyard. Here were some of their top targets from the weekend:

Traveon Maddox (Novi, 2018): Maddox is a dual-sport, outstanding overall athlete. Standing all of 6’4″, he has the size and athleticism to play at any college level. Heading into this camp he had a pair of D1 basketball offers as well as a few for football. He has been on a tear this whole month, generating a ton of basketball interest due to stellar performance after stellar performance. This weekend was no different; in fact, CMU coaches were impressed enough with his ability that they offered him on the spot. Maddox already has the ability to make an immediate impact on most mid-major squads, so with continued high-level play I wouldn’t be surprised to see his recruitment start to blow up.
Jiovanni Miles (Novi, 2019) – The sharpshooting guard has been continuing his successful spring campaign with a solid June so far. He’s had enough success to generate interest from schools as big as Iowa, however, none of said interest translated into offers until this weekend. Miles, right after teammate Maddox, received an offer from CMU coaches following his squad’s championship win Sunday. This comes as his first D1 offer. He stands around 6’3″ with good speed and athleticism, but he really makes an impact with his shooting. He has a smooth jumper that, when combined with his size and athleticism, he can get off over most defenders. Together, him and Maddox took turns giving opponents fits on both sides of the ball all weekend long.
Nolan Foster (Mattawan, 2019) – Foster was on CMU’s radar heading into the weekend, but excellent play over some of the state’s top big men this weekend solidified their interest. In fact, alongside Miles, Foster received his first D1 offer at the end of the weekend. One of the most interesting matchups of the weekend was when Mattawan took on Petoskey, featuring a head-to-head matchup of two of the states premier big men in Foster as well as Danny Kolp. This game saw Foster get the better of Kolp, who went down with an ankle injury halfway through the game. Standing at 6’10”, Foster has all the tools and ability to keep these mid-major offers coming.
Danny Kolp (Petoskey, 2018) – The aforementioned big man had a really good weekend until he went down with an ankle injury against Mattawan. He performed well against the best teams/players at the camp all weekend long. Standing at 6’9″, Kolp plays a true stretch 4 position. He’s capable of beating you from three, putting the ball on the floor and taking it to the rack, as well as scoring on the low post – all of which he displayed in front of CMU coaches this weekend. He also showed a good ability to bang down low with stronger, more physical big men. CMU coaches sat down with Kolp after one of his games and had a fairly long conversation with him. If Kolp can stay healthy it would not be surprising to see pick up an offer, however, he needs to prove he can stay healthy for a whole season.
Zach Goodline (Coloma, 2019) – Goodline’s abilities are well known throughout the prep basketball community in Michigan. He is one of the most prolific scorers in the state, regardless of class. He has all the tools offensively: elite handles, a reliable 3 point shot, a soft touch and creativity around the rim, as well as the ability to pass if needed. His offense is as good as they come. At 5’10” with average athleticism and a thin frame, Goodline will most likely either gain some explosiveness/athleticism or grow a few inches before D1 schools will extend an offer on him. Regardless, CMU coaches were still showing interest in Goodline as he brought his typical impressive game this weekend.
