Recruiting Report: Manny Akot (2018)
SF Washington always seems to have size. Bigs coming from every direction. Another big to watch is Emmanuel Akot, a raw but improving 6-foot-8 center.
Akot played junior varsity last year and practiced against the likes of Jack Talley, Issac Goeman, and Zach Heins for a full season. Now he’s ready to get frontcourt tie with Heins as a senior.
“The parts of my game I really need to improve on is my shot and the ability to guard the perimeter,” Akot said.
“My low post constantly finishing and catching the ball and going up strong and finishing through contact is another area I am working on. And strength. I have been in the weight room a ton this off-season.”
Akot is preparing for his senior year by playing with BBA Force, a team that has already played 21 games and has won nearly half.
“The competition playing with BBA Force has really helped me,” Akot said. “One thing AAU taught me is that good competition can bring out unknown or skilled attributes about your game you didn’t know you had.
“Overall it makes you better player. Your confidence and execution and overall thought process of the game reaches new level with each new experience.”
Akot is raw but every bit of six-foot-8 plus he’s long and agile and works hard inside. There is room for him at the college level as Akot continues to improve and he wants to play at the college level.
“I hope to play basketball in college it’ll be an ultimate blessing and a personal dream of mine,” Manny told PHD.
“So far a college coach hasn’t reached out to me but I see them at some of my AAU games, but I don’t let that bother me.
“I sign up for a couple of college camps to attend to this month.”
Akot wants to play college basketball but his number one goal is for his high school team to win the state tournament.
“Right now my goal is to win a state title for Washington High School. That means so much to me entering into my senior year, I want to go out with a bang.”
