Recruiting Report: Emir Carter (2018)
One of 2018’s best point guards, Emir Carter recently finished his junior season with Bishop McManus, but has decided to transfer schools.
The 6-foot-2 guard will play for Crescent City next season.
“I wanted to get more exposure, and they just won a championship, and I thought it was good fit,” said Carter, who just started playing with his new teammates last week.
“It’s been going good, we had our first couple of games in summer league last week. The team’s good and I’m just trying to get to a prep school after this year.”
Carter is young for his grade, and he’ll graduate when he’s just 17; that’s the main reason he wants to attend a prep school after graduation.
“I just want to get my body right before I go to college,” said Carter.
“I’ve been talking to Charlotte Basketball Academy and Oldsmar Christian. And they said they’ll watch out for me my senior season, and they might be able to get me into their schools.”
Carter added: “I’ve been in the weight-room trying to work on my body and get stronger, and trying to get that ready for the next level. And I’ve been working on my ball-handling, trying to become more of a point guard.”
This past spring, Carter was playing with the New Orleans Wolves on the 17U circuit.
“My role was really just to score and play really good defense,” but says he’s been asked to join EYBL squad Houston Hoops for the summer.
“I was talking to them during the spring and they told me that one of their guards was leaving and they needed a guard. I just plan on stepping up and making a bigger name for myself if I play for them.”
He’s still unsure of which team he’ll play with this summer though.
“I’m still up in the air on that though, because coming from New Orleans, that’s a lot of travel,” said Carter.
