Prospect Spotlight: Lance Jones – (2019)
SG – Lance Jones 6’1’’ (2019) – Evanston
Lance Jones is a 2019 prospect out of Evanston where he was a contributor on a senior lead team that included Purdue commit Nojel Eastern. This summer Jones is playing with the Nike Meanstreets 16U EYBL team and has shown he can be a scoring option and go to player. During the live period, Jones had a major performance where he went off for 27 points against the Brad Beal Elite in front of college coaches. He is a slasher who is a tough hard noised player that brings energy on both ends of the court. In the game where he scored 27 he hit from all three levels and showed a really nice mid-range game. Projects as a 2-guard at the next level he will have to develop his ball handling skills but has strength to where he can guard out on the perimeter and be a defensive stopper.
I caught up with Lance after the big performance to talk his game, grassroots and his past high school season.
How did your High School season go for Evanston this past year?
“I felt that the high school season went absolutely great. I don’t think we finished how we wanted to due to an injury I suffered in sectionals though.”
What were some areas in your game you made strides in and really improved?
“My defense, I became more disciplined and took some charges and I was the person to bring a lot of energy to the team.”
How’s the spring been so far with the Nike Meanstreets been?
“It has been great, I don’t think we are where we need to be we need to play tougher as a team and play hard each and every possession.”
Individually how do you feel you have played so far this spring?
I think I have played ok but I need to do a lot better, I need to get back in the gym and work on my craft and work on the little things because it’s the little things that really matter. That is what is going to help us get wins.
What are some of the things you want to really work on this grassroots season?
“I want to get my agility right, work on my ball handling, my shot, free throw shooting and continue to build on my defense.”
What are some things you do well? If you had to describe your game to someone on the street how would you describe it?
“Getting to the basket and finding open teammates, also a really good defender who works on defense.”
Anything going on with recruitment right now?
“No, not right now just waiting, being patience and trusting the process.”
