Spring HoopFest 17U Scouting Reports: Stateline Raiders & New Orleans Wolves
The Stateline Raiders won the Spring HoopFest 17U division 57-56 over the New Orleans Wolves and here’s a more in depth look at what the top players from both teams brought. Check out highlights from the game at the link below.
Cedric Anderson — East Feliciana 2018 6’4 W/F
Anderson was clutch for the Stateline Raiders in the Spring HoopFest tournament coming up with big buckets near the end of the quarterfinals against Back 2 Basics and the championship against the New Orleans Wolves. He had an and-one putback plus the go-ahead free throw with 11 seconds left to give the Raiders a 51-50 win over B2B and drilled back-to-back 3-pointers to cut a 52-45 deficit to 52-51.
He then assisted on the go-ahead basket and made 2 free throws to push the lead to 57-54 with 30 seconds to play. Anderson was also a presence for the better part of all three games on Sunday consistently finishing in transition and as a cutter in halfcourt sets. He was also the team’s primary player in the paint rebounding and defending and the two-sport athlete has recently received offers on the gridiron from Incarnate Word and Southern.
Calvin Adams — Zachary 2018 5’11 PG
Adams is all basketball and it showed on Sunday in his skill level. He pulled off a couple of next-level moves as a ball handler and finisher in the paint and also showed off a nice jump shot off the dribble or in set situations. Adams was a co-point guard with the next player on the list and both did a good job controlling the pace of the team while limiting turnovers due to mental mistakes.
Davon Harris — West Feliciana 2018 5’7 PG
Another two-sport standout for the Stateline Raiders, Harris was pesky at the point of attack defensively and set the tone on the that end of the floor. The Raiders forced a ton of turnovers on Sunday and Harris had the majority. He also had some creative finishes around the rim in traffic and has good vision as a passer. A few days after the Raiders won the Spring HoopFest, “Smoke” committed to Louisiana Tech as a running back.
Richard “R.J.” Harris — West Feliciana 2018 6’2 W
Harris was super active on both ends of the floor and his high motor led to forced turnovers on the defensive end and more transition buckets for the Stateline Raiders. His jumper is a bit unorthodox but he knocked down enough of them on Sunday in key spots to be a key part of the Raiders’ offensive attack.
Chad Tillery — West Feliciana 2018 6’1 G
Tillery is a smooth player that helped the Stateline Raiders spread the floor with his shooting. He wasn’t quite as consistent as usual but the threat he provided gave just enough room for Adams and Harris to find lanes to penetrate and orchestrate the offense. Tillery also scored off the bounce on a few occasions and was engaged as a defender as well.
Caleb Anderson — East Feliciana 2020 6’5 F
Anderson is a young player made the most of his minutes for the Stateline Raiders. He flashed on defense blocking a few shots and his progression will be worth keeping an eye on.
New Orleans Wolves
Sai Fisher — St. Augustine 2018 6’2 G
Fisher was playing in his first tournament with the New Orleans Wolves and he made himself right at home filling up the scoring column. The stocky 6-foot-2 guard was in attack mode throughout the tournament and got most of his buckets creating just enough space to get his shot off the dribble. He has range beyond the 3-point line and also used his strength to finish well in traffic.
Raylon Hardy — Hahnville 2017 5’11 PG
Hardy had a stretch in the first half where he really controlled the game as an aggressive, attacking lead guard scoring or creating shots for others. He’s a confident player that consistently sets the tone for the New Orleans Wolves on both offense and defense. Hardy recently went on a visit to Webber International.
Deitrick Stovall — Salmen 2017 6’0 CG
Stovall is a quick, skilled combo guard that can put the ball in the basket. He’s capable of knocking down shots from deep and does a good job of also getting to his spot for midrange jumpers. Stovall is also a sneaky athlete and it shows up in his quick bursts to the rim as a driver on offense or unexpectedly blocking shots on defense.
Jamon Mack — Cohen 2018 6’4 W
Mack was an important piece for the Wolves handling much of the dirty work inside but he was also one of the team’s top scorers thanks to his activity. He found soft spots in the defense for easy layups and also ran the break well with his guards.
Dajour Lloyd — West Jefferson 2019 5’10 PG
I like Lloyd more and more every time I see him. He’s a really smooth guard with an impressive handle and he changes speeds well to find ways into the lane where he can score or create. He couldn’t quite convert on a couple of key plays down the stretch but a bounce or two his way may have given the Wolves a win.
