Recruiting Report: Tyree Martin (2018)
Curie 2018 power forward Tyree Martin is one of the higher upside posts in his class. At 6’8” Martin has tremendous length and agility on the interior. Protects the rim and is starting to get a little more of a mean streak on the interior. Solid rebounder and offensively he shows flashes with dunks and is getting more comfortable hitting a mid-range jumper.
How was his junior year at Curie?
“This year I had an ok year. Of course we could have done better. We wanted to go back downstate. I got one more go around to try to do it. Last season I feel I got a lot stronger from my sophomore to junior seasons. I feel I have done a lot of work on my body. Next year I am looking to improve my perimeter jump shot a little more and expand my game.”
After winning the state title as a sophomore Curie had a target on their back.
“It is always fun when everyone is bringing their best for you. You never want teams to lay down and let you win. We definitely got everybody’s best game.”
What does he feel he brings to the table as a player?
“My strengths are making things happen around the rim. I bring a lot of energy to the floor.”
He updated us on his recruitment.
“It is going ok. Since the live period started a couple more schools have been contacting me. I feel it is going to get a lot better. I have offers from UIC and Tulsa.”
Tulsa has his former teammate Elijah Joiner in the fold and they are making him and his brother Treavon a priority.
“They keep in contact. I like the coaching staff. When we go down on a visit I am going to see how it is. We are probably going to visit in June.”
UIC is the hometown school that is making a push.
“It is close to home. I know how their coaching staff is. I have been around them a lot already so I have a feel for how they are.”
Martin says a few other schools are showing significant interest.
“I am talking to Drake, Miami (OH), and Denver.”
What will he be looking for in a program?
“Comfort and a place I can show my progress as a player and help the team.”
Are he and his brother a package deal?
“More than likely unless he really likes one school and I really like another. More than likely we will go to the same school.”
He doesn’t have a timetable for when he would like to make a decision at this point.
