Preseason All-Conference: River Valley North
Player of the Year: 2018 Dev Patel, Camanche
Patel isn’t going to lead the league in scoring. That honor will likely go to either his teammate Cameron Soenksen or Bellevue’s Cade Daugherty. But Patel impacts the game in a bigger way than any other player in the league, with his ability to stuff the stat sheet. He’s a legitimate triple-double threat every night, and he thrives in Camanche’s up-tempo system.
First Team
2018 Dev Patel, Camanche (11.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 2.6 steals)
No player in this division has a better chance at notching a triple-double on any given night than the Indians’ floor general. Patel has an outstanding command of Camanche’s high octane attack and is just as comfortable facilitating for his teammates as he is scoring. With the top two scorers gone, look for Patel’s numbers to increase across the board.
2020 Cameron Soenksen, Camanche (13.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.3 steals, 67 3PM)
The most potent returning shooter in the division, Soenksen had a great freshman season and following the graduation of his older brother Dakota, look for Cameron’s numbers to approach 20 points a game. He’ll have a very green light this season.
2018 Cade Daugherty, Bellevue (18.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists)
The division’s leading scorer, Daugherty had a strong offseason with the Tri-State Steam, and he’ll be looking to carry that momentum into his senior year. The Comets won just four games a year ago, a number that this high-level scoring guard will be looking to drastically improve.
2018 Luke Empen, Northeast, Goose Lake (13.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.1 blocks, 57.5 FG%)
The big man is a highly efficient scorer who controls the paint on both ends of the floor and is probably the most physical and intimidating force in the conference. He’ll be the anchor for a Northeast team that has been very strong recently but has a lot of pieces to replace.
2018 Johnny Supple, Cascade (12.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.0 blocks, 51.2 FG%)
The leader of what will be the division’s best team, Supple is a long, athletic wing who can score inside and out. His numbers aren’t as eye-popping as some of the others in the division, but he impacts the game on both ends with his length, and he’s a key piece of a very balanced Cougars team that we have ranked No. 2 in 2A to start the season.
