Bash in the Desert: Saturday’s Top Point Guards
The Bash in the Desert was loaded with talent, especially at the point guard position. Here are the top point guards from the Saturday session of the tournament.
Top Point Guards
D’Maurian Williams PG 6’4 2019 Westview (Factory)
Williams basketball IQ has always been tremendously high on the offensive end of the floor. His strength and athleticism allows him to get to anywhere on the floor with ease and create for himself as well as others. On the defensive end of the floor, he has improved considerably in his willingness to play tough on ball defense. Due to his uncoachables, he is capable of being a top tier on ball defender.
Josh Ursery 5’10 PG 2019 Valley Vista (Factory)
Ursery demonstrated that he is an elite level guard for his class. He is quick and aggressive off of the dribble. Furthermore, he can create for himself and finish well in the paint. On Saturday, he was one of the top point guards as no one could stay in front of him or keep him out of the paint.
Keontae White 5’11 PG 2018 (Team Harden)
White only played 1 of the 2 games for Team Harden on Saturday; however, he showed he is capable of being an elite level guard in Arizona. He might be the top, if not one of the top, guards in the state at creating a shot for himself. His ability to change speed and direction make him tough to stop off of the dribble.
Nieyeme Smyer-Williams 5’11 PG 2018 Pueblo West (South Central Elite)
Smyer-Williams is really tough off of the trouble. He drives with great speed, toughness, and vision. Due to his strength and speed, he is able to attack and get straight line drives that either create for himself or for his teammates. When he gets to the second level, he makes good decisions with the basketball and finishes extremely well around the rim.
Elijah Fuller 5’10 PG 2019 Sandra Day (Classics)
Fuller has been impressing me the more and more I watch him play. He is a physical guard with good quickness. He gets into the paint well and attracts help. On the defensive end of the floor, he has the ability to be an elite on ball defender due to his physical gifts. His consistent play mixed with fellow guard Chase Morley have been huge to the success of the classics.
