Recruiting Report: Ryan Miller (2018)
Part of a North Linn offensive attack that was one of the state’s best last season, 2018 guard Ryan Miller is one of the state’s under-the radar prospects.
Very good last winter with the Lynx, Miller has been even better this spring with Iowa Prep 17U — sensational each and every time we’ve seen him play.
The 5-foot-10 combo-guard is also a standout on the diamond, and right now he’s considering both sports at the next level.
“I’ve got some stuff from Coe, a couple letters. Briar Cliff and Wayne State have also sent me stuff and want to get to know me a little better and stuff like that,” said Miller of his basketball recruitment.
“I still have to figure out what I want to do; do I want to play baseball or do I want to play basketball? I’m leaning a little bit towards basketball right now, but we’ll see how it goes.”
He added: “Probably whatever one I can go higher in is what will help make my decision the most.”
Miller averaged 18.8 points on 54 percent shooting as a junior with North Linn, and was especially good from deep, connecting on 46 percent of his 3-point tries.
“I’d say my mid-range game has definitely improved from last summer, our head coach has stressed that a lot, and I think that’s what separates me from other players. Also my ball-handling has improved a lot,” said Miller who helped guide the Lynx to a third-place finish at the state tournament in March.
“I shot the ball really well compared to last year, then I ran into a roadblock when I broke my arm right before Christmas, that set me back a couple weeks. And then getting third in state wasn’t bad.”
His goal for this summer with Iowa Prep is simply to improve for his senior season; a season in which he and his Lynx will be among a short list of favorites to win a 1A title.
“Rebounding is something I really stress, so hopefully I can get those up a little more next season,” said Miller. “And I want to learn to lead a team, and get to that next level, which would be a state championship.”
