Spring Kick Off (2017): 17U standouts (stretch 4)
DENVER, Colo. — Prep Hoops takes a look at some of the top 17U stretch 4s who impressed this past weekend in Denver at the Spring Kick Off (2017).
10 — John Harge, 6’7, 2018, Smoky Hill, Billups Elite
Big man with a diverse skill set. Can play a little on the wing where he can handle the ball, see over the defense and is a good passer. Is also an above-the-rim finisher capable of throwing down powerful slams and finishing tough chances around the bucket.
11 — William Becker, 6’8, 2018, Smoky Holl, Colorado Hawks
Becker is a superb athlete that can play above the rim and is an agile defender on the perimeter. He is a strong rebounder and shot blocker and also has some perimeter skills, including the ability to handle the ball and shoot a little.
13 — Jeremy Cody, 6’7, 2018, Pueblo South, Colorado Chaos
Cody had one of the more impressive plays we saw over the weekend as he threw down an impressive slam over a defender from Wyoming that was waved off. He has good size and frame and is a terrific rebounder and defender. Great glue-guy that plays a lot on the baseline on offense and gets a lot of junk buckets.
15 — Brodie Hume, 6’7, 2018, Colorado Hawks
Hume is a player who stands out in part due to his ascension as a player over the past few months and he has earned a reputation as one of the state’s premier prospects. He has tremendous length for a wing player and is active defensively around the basket, but also comfortable moving his feet on the perimeter as well. Has as smooth free throw stroke and is capable of attacking the bucket as well.
34 — Deshan Hanika, 6’3, Topeka Hayden, SSA Elite
He is an undersized 4 man that has some nice face up skills and can play on the perimeter as well as around the basket. He is a terrific rebounder at both ends of the court. Had a terrific game on the boards against a talented Billups Elite squad.
50 — Luke Martin, 6’7, The Force
Really like this kid, might have been the best stretch 4 prospect we have seen over the weekend at the 2018 level. Can shoot the 3, has a great size and frame with long, rangy build. Has a nice feel for passing the ball and made some terrific feeds. Has great hands, catches the ball wherever it is thrown. Can also finish high above the rim. Seems to prefer playing along the baseline and on the wing at the offensive end of the court, but defensively, he is willing to defend in the paint and gets on the boards. Good feet and athleticism allows him to hedge out well and defend screens and pick-and-rolls. An All-Tournament caliber performer.
