Swish N Dish: 2021 & 2022 Scouting
PrepHoopsIllinois was at the NY2LA Sports Swish N Dish in Mequon, Wisconsin this past weekend for the premier grassroots kickoff event featuring all of the best Illinois teams. Now it is time for our extensive scouting report on the event. Check out part two of our report on the 2021 and 2022 Illinois Prospects in attendance.
C Christopher Hodges (Illinois Wolves 15U – 2021)
Hodges is an intriguing young big man for the Illinois Wolves. The 6’8” post who lives in Schaumburg has great size and length. Runs up and down the floor pretty well. A little mechanical, but will have plenty of time to become more fluid with his moves. Displayed a nice hook shot working on the block. Shot blocking presence. Big man that wants to be a big man! We would think he would be one of the more impactful high school freshman post players next season.
SF Tevin Smith (Mac Irvin Fire 14U – 2021)
Welcome to the party Mr. Smith! We had heard that this 6’4” 2021 Danville product was the next big thing out of that area for a while. He showed just that when we watched him at Swish N Dish. Plus size for the position early in the process. Should be able to grow a couple more inches as well with his frame. Lengthy wing with some early strength. Explosive first step with long strides covering a lot of ground in a short amount of time. Skill level is impressive for an athlete of his caliber at a young age. Smith handles it putting combination moves together to get in the lane. Shoots it well with a clean looking stroke from both mid-range and three. Works well in the pick and pop game as a screener and stretching the floor. One we will be watching closely over the next four years.
PG Boopie Miller (Mac Irvin Fire 14U – 2021)
Miller is a BallisLife sensation with his flashy handles and lack of height. Probably only about 5’3” he is very small, but handles the ball well. Deep range on his shot as he lets it fly from deep. Takes a while for him to get his shot off because he has to put so much behind it.
PG Sam Johnson (Mac Irvin Fire 14U – 2021)
Johnson stands at 6’0” with a solid build. Really shot it well from the perimeter. Made multiple deep threes. Mixed in several mid-range pull ups and floaters. Hearing he might attend Bolingbrook.
PG Amari Bailey (Meanstreets 15U – 2022)
Bailey is an internet and reality TV show sensation with his role on the Lifetime show “Bringing Up Ballers.” The kid has game though. We saw him play a grammar school game at the Chicago Elite Classic last year which he dominated. Bailey played at Swish N Dish for Meanstreets on the 15U level which is two grades up. The lengthy 6’2” guard has a good feel for the game, handles it well and has a sweet lefty shot. Got out in transition and made plays going the other way. In the 13U championship he ran with his normal age level and put on a show hitting jumpers from all over the floor and making plays in the pick and roll dishing the rock.
PF Andre Casey (Meanstreets 13U – 2022)
Casey is a power forward that is about 6’5” early in the process. He isn’t just a young big man that doesn’t know what he is doing. The lengthy four man moves extremely well for his size. Very coordinated and had outstanding footwork around the hoop. High points rebounds and got second chance shots.
