Louisiana Composite All-State 2nd Team
Now that we have taken care of the All-State teams for each classification and division, it is time to move on to what everyone has been waiting for! Composite all state teams! For these, we were much more strict about having it feel like a real team, so we slotted each player into a specific position we feel fits them. Tell us which team you think would win!
Point Guard: Cedric Russell 6’3 G 2017 Peabody (ULL commit)
Russell showed once again this season why he is a top 5 player in the state for the 2017 class. He scored the most amount of points in a single game this season, when he went for 54 against Jennings in the regular season, which included going 16/25 from three, which according to the LHSBCA website is the most made threes in a game in school history. He is more than capable of finding open teammates in positions where they can be most successful, as he also lead Peabody in assists this season. Cedric Russell is something special.
Shooting Guard: Davontavean Martin 6’4 G 2017 Ellender (Washington St. football commit)
Tae Martin is a very special kind of athlete. After the last two years, I feel like no matter what he attempts to do athletically, he will be successful. If he decided to take up badminton, I feel like he’d be great at that. After being committed to UNO for basketball all of last year, he decided that his future is best served on the football field. When Ellender didn’t have Tae, they were a totally different team, and they ended up with a handful of losses they shouldn’t have otherwise had.
Small forward: Caleb Daniels 6’3 G 2017 St. Augustine
Daniels’ spent most of last summer and pre-season out with a foot injury, but if you watched him down the stretch of the season you would have never known. He is just as athletic and explosive as ever. It is rare that you see that combination of athleticism and polish still available this late in the recruiting cycle.
Power Forward: Jay Head 6’7 F 2017 Ouachita Parish
Jay Head has made some of the most improvements from last year to this year, and will most likely roll that into a D1 offer. He has gotten much better this season playing on the perimeter, and I am much more confident in his transition to the wing at the next level. On the defensive side, he has a motor that doesn’t stop, and makes big play after big play on that side.
Center: Larry Owens 6’8 F/C 2017 Carroll (Northwestern St. commit)
Owens has the size and agility to be a monster, and he was all season for Carroll. When he get down onto that block, there are very few people in the state capable of stopping him, as he can just power nearly anyone that tries to get in his way. He also showed off a developing 15 foot jumper that he will be able to use at the next level.
