Louisiana Div. II All-State Selections
First Team:
Kevin Johnson 6’0 G 2017 E.D. White (Nicholls St. commit)
Johnson is an extremely athletic guard that brings a ton of energy every time he steps on to the court. His energy level is most impactful on the defensive end, where he is capable of locking down the other team’s best player. On the offensive end, he is capable of scoring on all three levels, as well as finding the open guy if the defense collapses on him.
Ahmad Taylor 6’3 F 2017 De La Salle
Taylor, like the rest of De La Salle, can straight up shoot the lights out of the ball. However, all season he showed a much improved ball handling ability, as well as decision making ability. He has the ability to grab a rebound and immediately put it on the floor to push the pace and run in transition.
Spencer Mays 6’3 G 2018 U-High
Mays is a long, athletic defender that is very capable of being a difference maker on that end of the ball. He isn’t relied on much to do it, but he can protect the rim, and if you are playing against him, beware of his chasedown block ability. On the offensive end, he is adept at getting to the rim and finishing over the defense.
Rodney Munson 6’0 G 2019 De La Salle
Despite being only a sophomore, there are many that consider Munson to be the best player for a state championship winning De La Salle team, myself included. He has a sweet stroke from downtown, but he is even better at penetrating and getting into the lane to collapse the defense.
Jonathan Cisse MVP 6’2 G 2018 St. Thomas More
For my money, Cisse was the best player all season in Division II. He averaged over 21 ppg as well as getting over 5 rpg and nearly 4 apg. The thing I like most about his game is that he is never in a hurry, and he is always dictating the pace with the ball in his hands. He is a deadly shooter from outside and surprisingly unselfish for a player that earns over 20 points per game. He already has D1 offer, and I would be surprised if he doesn’t pick up a handful more over the summer.
Second Team:
John Jones 6’0 G 2017 U-High
Watching Jones, it is clear that he is the son of a coach. Very rarely does he make mistakes with the ball in his hands, and he can get to the goal and finish. He is a pure point guard that enjoys involving others.
Trent Schiller 5’10 G 2017 St. Michael
Schiller is a very heady guard that is the ultimate competitor. He plays very hard and is always diving on the floor for loose balls. He is a knock down shooter from the outside, and does a good job of feeding his teammates in spots where they will be most successful.
Nate Cox 6’8 F 2017 St. Thomas More
All season, Cox did a great job of protecting the rim for the Cougars, and used his length and athleticism to affect all shots in the paint. On offense, he is an analytics dream, as he is best suited stretching the floor for threes or rolling to the paint finishing lobs and dump downs.
Eric Reed 6’1 G 2018 U-High
Reed is an elite athlete that does his best work on the defensive end. He is more than capable of guarding the other teams best player and more often than not he shuts the offensive player down. He is still rough around the edges on offense, but his speed is a huge difference maker in transition.
Noble Scott 5’8 G 2017 De La Salle
Scott is another member of De La Salle’s three headed monster (four headed monster if you consider Ahmad Taylor). He is one of the most deadly shooters in the state, and has deep range well beyond the high school three. He is the definition of hand down man down.
